My toes are happy in my comfy warm socks

This is good, as winter approaches.
You should get yourselves some nice warm socks.
It is good.

Dude, you can’t just leave us hanging. What kind of socks?

I’m partial to Timberland.

Love me some nice socks. I tend towards cat pix on them. Mainly because someone sent some.

About… 3 winters ago or so I found some wool socks at Wal-Mart. I hate Wal-Mart, rarely go there, and was in there for something else, but happened to see those socks so I thought I’d give them a go. Turns out they’ve been the most comfortable, warmest socks I’ve ever had. Unfortunately, I can’t remember the brand name so I’ve never been able to get replacements and those old socks — I bought 5 pairs — have reached the end of their useful lives as they’re so nice I wear them year-round, even in August. I picked up a pair of Darn Tough merino wool socks off Amazon ($30 a pair!!) and they aren’t nearly as comfortable as those Wal-mart socks.

Yesterday I was in Wal-mart again, the first time in probably 9 months, looking for some clothes for my niece’s first birthday. They had a big display with men’s socks, and lo and behold they had wool socks! I don’t know if it’s the same brand as the ones I got three years ago, but I washed them this morning and they’re in the dryer (cool setting of course) as I type. If these are as good as the last ones I bought — they are Kodiak brand, which may be the same as the ones I bought 3 years ago for all I know—I’m going to go back there and clear out their inventory.

A good pair of socks and comfortable shoes are the most important part of a wardrobe. If your feet hurt you’ll be miserable all day.

I recently purchased these thermal socks. Very comfy and warm.

If you want something to wear a lot try the Acorn Camp Slipper. This is what the shuttle astronauts wore. They sold them at our commissary at NASA. It’s a wool sock with a soft leather sole. I have had my pair for probably 30 years. I guess they are red today, mine are just the good old mixed wool Ragg knit.

Do you think they were called Grizzly? My husband says those socks are the most comfortable and warmest socks ever. They were from WalMart - black with a gray stripe on top.

I bought some Spyder socks from Sam’s Club around Christmas the last 2 years. They are very comfy and warm too. I bought them for myself, husband and various family memeber for gifts. Everyone LOVED them. My husband said they were the only socks that were as good as his beloved Grizzlies from WalMart.

I use Wigwam Ice Socks. They are so fat they practically stand up when I’m not wearing them. My winter boots are a full size greater than my rain boots because they wouldn’t fit (I consider this a positive).

I find I have to buy physical socks in person. If I buy them online, they tend to be thinner than I want.

I had such trouble finding wool socks I liked that I started knitting my own. Which is probably not a solution most people would opt for. I manage about one pair a year.

I used to wear any old socks, but I’ve gotten spoiled by Smartwool socks. Then, one Christmas, in the middle of some subzero cold snap, I got Smartwool Snowboarding Socks. OMO (Oh my Og), are these toasty! All the way up to my knees… I didn’t know I needed to keep my calfs and shins warm, but now that I do, life is cozy (even in a drafty old vintage house).

My feet are always cold (except when they’re burning up). I found some great wool socks in the men’s department at Target. They’re called camp socks. At the end of last winter they were half price and I stocked up, so I’m all set.

I just did a search and apparently they’re not available. I guess I bought up all there were in the entire world. Sorry about that.

If I may be so bold as to digress a tiny bit, I find myself moved to also sing the praises of leg warmers, which you can still buy! I bought two pairs last winter and repurposed one pair as arm warmers. Mmm, toasty.

The elastic in sock tops drives me bonkers! I am most compatible with Diabetic socks.

Me, too! I also hate the seams in the toe area. I often wear socks inside out so as not to be irritated by toe seams.

CHemo has given me neuropathy in my feet. It feels [among other sensations] like sandpaper between my toes. While like many people, the occasional bare footed meander on a beach with slightly damp sand can be pleasant occasionally, not as a 24/7 thing.

I have discovered toe socks a lifesaver. No longer do my toes rub together, they stay encased and comfortable. I can also add warm oversocks if my feet get cold. I favor these ankle high really fuzzy chenille socks [polkadots, checks and stripes in random fluorescent colors =) ]

These are my favorite. I now have a dozen pair. Plenty thick, really warm. Great around the house all winter; terrific for travel and walking through foreign cities.

Talk about name-dropping :p. Aside from Officially Envious, I’m now browsing the Acorn page. Some of their stuff looks like it would be a great present for Brother Who Spends A Lot Of Time In Construction Sites.

I recently discovered the magic of bamboo socks. They’re soft, and like an invisible heat pump, keep my feet at the perfect temperature.

Smart Wool: yes
Darn Tough: yes
Injinji hiking (toe socks): OH YEAH!

Any kind of wool sock invariably gets little wool lint balls that get stuck between my toes, and I only notice them when I can’t do anything about them. The Injinji means I already have something between by toes, and so it doesn’t me.

I really don’t like asymmentrical clothing. If one sock falls down, then the other has to go down. If one sleeve is pushed up, then the other one gets pushed up. So the random lint balls bug me. But something between all my toes?
