Socks (a poll)

It’s getting colder and I really appreciate having my comfy wool socks. Actually I wear my comfy wool socks almost all year. (Not so much in the summer. Then I opt for the sport sandle/ no sock look.) They are thicker than regular cotton socks, making them cushionier, and after you get used to them, they aren’t itchy at all.

So what are your favorite socks?

  1. Wool (the obvious and correct choice)
  2. Cotton (a good second choice, I guess)
  3. Other (like polar fleece socks, or… I dunno, my sock repertoire is fairly limited)
  4. Silk stockings with lace garters (you just never know)
    -Rue.
  1. Cotton for me. Not sure why.

although i suppose - as a male british and technically a civil servant - i should be wearing 4.

Kinda of a wool-something else mix, I guess.

Although cotton ones are great in the summer.

I can’t wear wool socks, my skin doesn’t tolerate wool very well and I will scratch about till I bleed. So nice thick cotton socks for me.

None at all. I don’t wear socks in blizzards. The only time I’ve worn socks in the last few years was for job interviews.

2 - cotton for me. Comfy-cozy any time of year, and cotton breathes well. The best is a brand-new pair, that are still all soft and have all their elastic intact.

Wool socks all year round! Unless playing soccer, in which case I wear cotton. And doing yoga I don’t wear any.

Wool. Love my wool socks. (but only in winter)

I found two pairs of terry cloth socks at a store once. They are easily the most comfortable items in my wardrobe, and I wear them nonstop during the winter months. Better than slippers, I tells ya!

White cotton athletic socks. Every day.

They’re just about the only thing in my life that could be described as “athletic” too.

  1. Other

Cashmere socks. Get them every year in my stocking (no pun intended).

Nice, clean cotton socks. Toe socks, optional.

Actually, I prefer the toe socks in winter, as they keep my tootsies nice and warm. I have 7 pairs now, one for each day of the week.

Wool.

even in the summer I wear thinner wool socks with my hikers.

Wool.

Smartwool to be exact.

I have Smartwool hiking socks and dress socks and casual socks and even a Smartwool hat.

For Christmas, my wonderful husband got me six pairs of Smartwool snowflake socks!

When I am wearing running shoes, I usually wear short athletic socks made of Coolmax or something.

I have a couple of pairs of old ragg wool socks that I wear around the house.

I think I have only one pair of cotton socks. I don’t like them.

In the winter I wear Pretty Socks (probably cotton blends, I’m not positive). I’ve got ones with monkeys on them, flowers, ladybugs, stripes, polka dots, kitty-cats, glittery hearts, fuzzy clouds–you name it. I like them because
a) they’re cute, and
b) they’re really easy to mate

In the summer I don’t even wear shoes if I can help it, let alone socks…

  1. Cotton, white. Don’t really own any other type. It’s not cold enough for wool here, and I don’t dress up much so I have a few dress socks at the bottom of the drawer but lots of athletic socks.

White cotten.

I’d rather knit socks than wear them. Actually, I’m wearing a pair of cotton socks now as a concession to the cold, but I’ve been known to run out to get the paper in barefoot through the snow.

On the other hand, I knitted a friend of mine a pair of really funky socks for Christmas, and I have knitted a pair of what I affectionately call “Elizabethan Ugly Socks”.

  1. Cotton. White tube socks, or sometimes gray ones. Slouched down by my ankles. They feel too constricting if they’re pulled up over my calves. Plus it looks weird with shorts, unless you play soccer I suppose.

On cold days like today, I wear wool socks. The rest of the time, except for summer, I wear cotton socks. In summer, I do the sockless sport (or dress) sandal thing.
