Most Comfortable Pair of Socks?

This is VERY mundane…

A year ago or so, I got these wonderful socks around winter-time. I can’t describe how wonderful my feet felt. Foot orgasm is the best term I could use to describe them. Many times, I would stand up just to feel how wonderful they were. Unfortunately, I can’t find what they are called. All three pairs ripped very easily, and I only used them around the house, and on a few occasions I’d go shopping. Basically, nothing rough. Unfortunately, I never thought they’d rip, and never took down the brand name.

The most comfortable pair I have now are ones with the emblem, “Heat Holder Socks”… They also have a small rip, but I guess something along those lines. My feet are always cold, but I prefer comfort.

I’ve been wanting to treat myself with my $1,200, and this is something cheap, as I need to stash the money away for the unknown.

I tried socks from Bombas a couple of years ago, and fell in love with them. Super comfortable, and they offer fun colors and designs, too. I became a Bombas loyalist, and other than a couple of heavy-duty pairs of winter socks, I don’t wear other brands anymore.

They aren’t particularly cheap, but I don’t splurge on my wardrobe, generally, so spending a few extra dollars for really good socks is worth it, to me.

Smartwool. So comfy in winter (especially the knee-high ones). But the lighter ones wick moisture away from your foot, so I wear them in the summer, too. They make short-short socks, too, so I look less dorky in shorts.

And they make compression socks that are 1000% more comfortable than others.

ETA: Oh, they have “Smartwool” woven into the soles, so I’ll never have to start a thread like this!

If you’re looking for durable socks that are super comfortable, you can’t go wrong with Darn Tough smart wool blend. A pair is about $20, give or take a two bucks, but I have yet to wear a pair of them out. The manufacturer claims they will repair or replace them if you do wear them out. Another great pair of touch and super comfortable socks are by Timberland. Every bit as good as Darn Tough and around $15 a pair if memory serves. Unbeatable for casual foot ware. You can buy both brands on Amazon.

I shop for socks with a high percentage of merino wool in them. I’ve bought several brands, but I find merino wool to be soft and spongy and warm and wicking, and just generally a really good material for socks.

Seconding Bombas. Not cheap, but you’ll get 20% off your first order, and they’re absolutely worth every penny.

Plus, you’ll be helping others: for every pair you buy, the company donates one pair to an organization that supports the homeless community.

I still have some Smartwool socks and knee highs given to me by the late Other Shoe, who’s been gone seven years now. They’re durable!

Pro tip: wash them turned inside out. Keeps the pattern looking crisp.

Thank you all. Lots of choices. I never cared about looks, just comfort, so if anyone wants to narrow those choices down, I’d appreciate it. Thanks again.

Another vote for Smartwool. My other favorite socks are Wrightsocks, their double-layered “CoolMesh” socks not only prevent blisters but are super comfy.

Seriously, dude.

Here you go; 100% cashmere socks. A bargain at only $180 per pair.

ThorLo are very nice and US made. They are not wool for most of them , they are synthetic coolmax. They last a long time too.

Lots of choices? I mean, basically, you have two recommendations:

  • SmartWool (of which Darn Tough appears to be a variant)
  • Bombas

Is it too hard to go look at a couple of websites?

So my son has an AFO, and we have struggled mightily to find the perfect socks for him. They have to be knee high (or at least mid calf), stay up on their own (but not have a tight band) not have any seams or baggy places, and be soft and smooth for wearing under a brace 23 hours a day.

We found these socks called “SmartKnit”. They are some kind of witchcraft. They are utterly soft and smooth and seamless, stay up on their own with the softest of halo around the top that never pinches or leaves marks around his knee. They never wrinkle around his ankle. They’re breathable and machine washable. I am not brave enough to put them in the dryer though you probably could. They are some sort of cotton/spandex blend and I’ve had bad experiences in the past with similar items losing their spandex magic in the dryer, so I just hang them to dry.

Not too expensive, either.

My favorite socks are mid-weight hiking socks from Bridgedale.

Smartwool is nice as well, as is Woolpower.

Another vote for Bombas. I love them and have a about 10 pairs now.

My favorite socks ever are Throlo boot socks. I discovered them in the military and they far outperformed any other sock. SUPER comfortable. In fact, I think I threw out my last pair 5-10 years ago, so they lasted me 10 years too.

Going to have to order some more, I do believe…

ETA: very good reviews on Amazon too, from military and hikers.

Smartwool or wigWam. Bothh are fantastic, both come in funky patterns, and both are quite durable.

Smartwool is great. I’ll add Icebreaker as a brand of wool socks and other clothing to look out for. I’m not an expert, but they appear to be of equivalent quality to Smartwool.
