I'm making my own Chicago Style Stuffed Pizza

All of these food threads have made me desparate to find a source of Chicago Style Stuffed Pizza. Such a thing does not exist outside of Chicago. So I am making it myself. Except for the spilling of the black pepper into the spinach I am really optimistic about this one. It’s the only recipe I found that looks to be what I want. I am currently waiting patiently for the dough to rise.

This is one expensive pizza. I spent 40 dollars on the ingredients. I know that’s only 20 dollars more than what I would pay for in Chicago so its not that bad.

Has anybody else made a stuffed pizza?

Next I plan on making a Chicago Style hot dog. That is also not sold around here. But where to get Vienna beef hot dogs?

Why would anybody want to do that to an innocent hotdog?

My wife and I are both from Chicago. When we were living in Maine we would have Chicago food delivered to us. From Chicago. Seriously. Lou Malnati’s will deliver their pizzas, plus authentic Vienna Chicago style hot dogs, Carson’s ribs, and Eli’s cheescakes. We made the stuffed pizzas ourselves on a few occasions, but it just wasn’t the same.

Nationwide delivery from Lou Malnati’s is expensive, but worth every penny for the homesick Chicagoan.

::SLAP!::

Pistols at dawn, Sir!

Interesting. When you said Lou Malnoti’s I thought, “well they aren’t my favorite pizzas but theyll do”, but they actually sell all sorts of things as you said. This will make life much better.

I couldn’t eat a hotdog any other way. I recently walked into a hotdog shop thinking for sure they would sell Chicago-style. i took one look at the ingredients they had available and walked out. Ketchup on a hotdog? Never in my family!

Well, where are you?

If you’re willing to wait, you can mail order a Chicago hot dog kit at http://www.viennabeef.com/. $30 for sixteen hot dogs, buns and condiments.

This redeems you…a bit.

I make one occasionally. It’s actually pretty easy if you have a food processor with a dough hook. But it’s not as good as the real thing.

And $40 for ingredients? The flour is maybe $1 worth, canned tomatoes $3, mozzarella cheese $5, and other ingredients is usually $2. Olive oil, sure, but it doesn’t take much, and you probably have some already.

What on earth are you spending so much money on?
