I'm never carded!

and I have no idea why. Of the last five times I’ve bought booze, I’ve been carded once. And that time I bought three bottles and some groceries. I’ve been to a bar (at the last Dopefest). Not carded (but I did have my purse up on my lap ready to get out my ID, so…?). The last two times I bought a single bottle of booze, nope. Admittedly, I was buying lots of groceries at the same time.

I know I look underage. Cite That was taken today after I finished putting away groceries. Come on, I have my hair in pigtails! I look maybe 19 (or younger?), why was I not carded? I don’t get it.

Mundane? Check. Pointless? Definitely check. Must share? Yes! Cuz it’s bugging me!

I don’t get carded either. But I know why. :frowning:

Well, I sell beer, and card like a madman. I might card you. It’s really hard to tell from a photo - people in person look different. I think the glasses might give you a more mature look than you think. How old are you in actuality?

Joe

Judging from just that photo, and hoping you don’t take this the wrong way, I disagree – I don’t think you look underage.

I’m usually very reluctant to enter a liquor store, and when I do I make sure I know exactly what I want so that I can get in and out. I hate having to deal with the dirty looks from the sales clerks who think I’m under 18.

And I’m 23, ftr.

I get carded sometimes. It really depends on how I’ve dressed that day. I definitely don’t look like I’m under 21, but I think sometimes I might look like a mature 20 year old, if that makes sense.

On the other hand, some of the high school students I see on the bus look older than I do.

Yeah… I’m not sure how old you actually are, but I’d say you definitely look over 21. Though it could just be the lighting or angle of that photo.

I’m rarely ever carded as well. Not that I buy alcohol often, but I’m never carded in bars/restaurants, only sometimes at the grocery store.

Much to the amusement of the friends we were meeting, my boyfriend and I both got carded a few weeks ago. We had just spotted the table where they were sitting and were making our way over when one of the bar staff tapped on my shoulder and asked to see ID for both of us.

FTR, legal age here is 19, we’re both 29 and both possibly look on the young side for our ages, but not by 10 years!

I guess I’m more likely to get carded if I go out like this. Not when I’m looking like this, though, unless they’re just carding on principle. Funny the difference hairstyles and makeup make.

My core group of friends and I are all around 25. It’s funny when we go to a bar where there’s not a bouncer, a certain one of my buddies will always be singled out and asked to produce ID. The funny part? He’s the oldest one out of all of us.

I notice a marked increase in carding frequency based on how much facial hair I’m sporting.

I spent several hours with the lovely STG traveling to, at, and returning from the last LA dopefest.
If you had asked me up front how old she was, I would have pegged her at 19-20. If I were selling booze, I would card her to be safe.

I wouldn’t worry so much about how you look, I’d worry more about the lackadaisical carding in Ventura County, CA. Not cool if they’re not being diligent about carding out there. Not cool at all.

The first time I ever got carded was in 1996 when I went to go see the movie Mulholland Falls in 1996 in Plano, Texas. I found it extremely odd because I had already purchased alcohol several times in the state with nary a problem. As if a kid was going to go see that movie!

Marc

Cute girls in the bar are good for business. You are a shill, nothing more.

Got carded the other day! Which has been quite unusual the past couple years. You’d think my ruined, corrupted face would be ID enough; I can only assume it’s because I’m such a perfect physical specimen.

Agreed.

Yeah, have to say, it wouldn’t occur to me that you might be under 21, either. Don’t get me wrong, you don’t look old, either, you just don’t look <21.

Plus, IME as a barmaid, your genuine underage drinkers (the female ones, anyway) tend to plaster themselves in make-up in an attempt to look older.

I don’t drink much, but I can’t remember the last time I was carded. Of course, the gray in my beard may have something to do with that.

I have a friend who turned fifty last January, and recently she was carded. Her daughter, who was with her at the time, was not.

Oh, and Silver Tyger Girl: you don’t look underage to me. You do, however, make me wish I was twenty years younger.

Last time I got carded, Jimmy Carter was in the White House.

I don’t get carded if I’m with my husband. I don’t know why, but when we went to Vegas last fall, we were three four days and I didn’t get carded once (and it sure as hell isn’t because I look over 21). On our last day there, I lost him for about 10 minutes and got carded twice in the interim.
