Well, after much debate I finally majorily altered my appearance. My whole life I have had a unibrow and people in my family always told me that I looked good with it. Well, I don’t believe too much what people in my family say about looks etc. because they will never say anything that may hurt your feelings. Well, last year I became friends with this one girl at work. We would go out to lunch and after work to some bars etc. Well, she and I would always talk about different things and since were weren’t boyfriend, girlfriend we didn’t have to worry about lying to prevent hurt feelings. Anyways, I don’t know how we got on the subject but she was telling me that she thought that I was pretty good looking and that if I was to lose the unibrow I would have girls flocking to me. Yeah, I think she is exaggerating some with that comment. I never really thought about losing the unibrow because I felt like I would be a phony if I did that. I don’t know why. So, backed with this evidence from my friend I started asking other people what they thought. They all said the same thing. So, as fate would have it my Aunt just graduated from some kind of hair removal school and she had to practice for state boards. I asked her if she would like to practice on me (removing my eyebrow hairs via electrolysis) that way we would both benefit. So, I’ve been going over to her house for the past month and she has been working on my eyebrow. Well, I now have TWO eyebrows!! I guess all the women of the world had better watch out now.
Good for you! I have been wanting to get electrolysis on my chin and upper lip for a while, but I was afraid of scarring and the pain of the procedure. Did you have any problems? I hear that the process is much better these days
There are two different type of electrolysis that she has tried on me. The first type (I can’t remember the name) is just a quick pulse and that really doesn’t hurt at all or leave a mark (if the current is set properly). The second type that she has done on me is called ‘Blend’, I believe. This type uses both AC and DC current and it does hurt more than the first type. This method is also supposed to be more effective at permanently removing the hair. The first time she did it to me she had the current turned up too high and I got these white little blisters that eventually went away and then there was a scab where she removed the hair. Everything was cleared up in a week and there was no scarring. Last night she did the blend again but at a lower setting. I didn’t get any white blisters. There are a few small red marks and you need to put moisturizer on the area for a few days so that the skin doesn’t dry out.
She said that the upper lip is one of the most painfull areas to have hair removed. They ususally use some sort of topical anstesia for that area - according what she has said. She said that it is very bad because is usually makes the person tear a lot and sneeze a lot. I guess it would be like getting hit on the tip of the nose?
Before she thins up the end of my eyebrows she is going to apply some of this numbing medication. She let me feel last night what it would feel like in this area without anestetic(the area is right by the temple of your head). Boy, it was instant tears and I wanted to bite down on a stick or something.
for the info. I can imagine the upper lip would be painful, but I wonder how this compares to waxing? I doubt you know, being a guy, but maybe others would know.
Woohoo! Not to hurt anyone’s feelings, but I’ve always thought that unibrows were very unattractive… Let us know how long the hair stays gone, please! I’m interested in having some hair removed that way myself.
So what is your NEW screen name gonna be? Duobrow?
You done good unibrow.
I had a unibrow in school, but when I started shaving, I learned to shave there too. It was ok until my beard started coming in full force, and then that part would get a “5 o’clock shadow” of stubble in a couple of days.
When I discovered plucking, I was home free.
As for it growing back, I discovered that after plucking for a couple of years, very few grow back and weeks apart, so it never looks stupid any more.
Also, if you haven’t figured it out, you can cut the long ends with scissors to make them less bushy. The trick is to comb the hairs up, cut, and then smooth them back down, so you don’t get a sharp edge where you cut.
So, tell us. What will your board username become? Adonis?
Wait… comb them up, then smooth them back down? You mean your eyebrow hairs grow DOWN? Mine grow up and to the sides… (oh, and beauty manuals will tell you you should always comb your eyebrows up to make your eyes look better… but that might be a woman thing)
Sasquatch!:
LOL!
No, I’m not that guy. My unibrow was just as bad as his if not a little worse. The thing also tried growing down my nose. I guess that it was in the shape of the letter ‘M’. My eyebrows look like Michael Keaton’s.
OESGal: I have no idea what waxing feels like so I can’t comment on that.
OpalCal: So far all the hair that I have had removed as of a month ago has not returned. Apparently hair goes through three stages of growth. If the hair folical is zapped in one of the two beginning stages the hair shouldn’t come back. If it is zapped in the final stage it will probably come back. That is why it may take several months to get rid of all of the hair.
I haven’t thought of what my new screen name will be yet. I’ll come up with something and let you all know.
I’m a former unibrow. No electrolysis, I just shave the middle out. It was done not for cosmetic reasons. Since I got my latest pair of glasses (about 2 1/2 years ago), the hair in the middle kept getting irritated by the bar between the specs. As I get older, the brow hair gets thicker. As I am on the older than 35, there are a couple of grey hairs now. These are a bitch, they stick out. I trim my eyebrows down as well. Screw what anyone else thinks.
I’ve done any number of things to practically all the hairs on my body and I don’t feel like a phoney. And as for the people that say-“why fight it, it’s natural” I notice THEY don’t have gray hairs, ambitious eyebrows or stray hairs on their chins. Screw them.
I happen to like my hair closer to it’s original color than after the go grey early gene took effect. I saw my first grey at sixteen fer chrissake. I also happen to like my legs, pits and there hairless too.
I’m beautiful dammit.
You go Ex-unibrow, may your excess eyebrows never return.
