In fact, I’m a rabid Tennessee fan. But Tyrone Prothro just snapped his lower leg in half…oh, my god.
That was absolutely awful. I hope he gets better and I hope he’s better than ever when he does. They put him on that stretcher and I can’t believe how composed he was. No tears or anything…wow.
And the worst thing? There’s this small part in the back of my head saying “At least we won’t have to play against him.” I’m absolutely ashamed of that and I wish I didn’t think it.
I hope that grisly scene doesn’t end up all over Sportscenter tonight. And if it does, I hope his mother isn’t watching. Good luck, Prothro.
I didn’t see it, but I just have to ask: Was it better or worse than Joe Theismann?
Looked worse to me, but maybe only 'cuz it’s more current.
I assume we’ll have split-screen replays with John Facenda-like commentary and Wagnerian background music…
The commentators did bring up Joe Theismann, but that seemed like hyperbole to me. Prothro was giving some pretty enthusiastic thumbs-ups to the crowd, and if it has been a Theismann-like break, I doubt he’d have been in the mood to do that.
Oh dear god. I went and looked up the photo on the AP; that is really, really horrible. Worse than Joe Theismann. Way worse.
His leg just above the ankle was flopping about when the rest of him landed. I’ve never really seen anything like it…he landed on his left leg, I believe, and snapped it just above the ankle. It was a full-tilt-boogie double fracture as far as I could tell.
Yeah, I always preferred The Oak Ridge Boys, myself…
Wow…I’ve seen obscure arborial jokes around here, but that’s the first bluegrass pun I’ve yet seen. Congrats.
You’ve piqued my interest. Where is this AP photo?
