I'm not fat.

Well my SO just checked you out too.

Tow thumbs up.

He says “She’s lookin’ gooood!”

BMI isn’t perfect. It’s a great measure for the average person, but if you aren’t average - if you’re a body builder, or you have a large frame, etc. - the numbers don’t really work. The CDC itself notes that BMI is only one measurment, and that other factors (waist size, activity level, etc.) are also important.

Oh and Opal? Congratulations. Hit “post” too soon - that’s marvelous, I’m always happy when someone’s able to get healthier.

Congratulations Opal. You are looking great.

Heck, I don’t need no freaky-deaky BMI calculator to tell me that you’re not. I met you. You ain’t. You may have been. But you ain’t.

Ain’t, ain’t, ain’t, ain’t!

Because obesity surgery is a last resort, and a duodenal switch is, if i remember correctly, the most effective obesity surgery when it comes to losing excess body weight. So if the most effective last resort didn’t bring his weight down below the ‘morbid obesity’ category then what hope does he have? He will have cardiovascular problems for life. Not only that, but he told me he is hungry all the time but can’t hold down more than a few ounces of food so he is perpetually starving but can’t eat enough to not be hungry and can’t lose weight.

this is all off topic, but are you going in for surgery? What kind? duodenal switch, lap band, bypass, mini-bypass, etc?

Did mine, and got 18.7. For my height and weight I’m still healthy, but might could stand to gain a pound or two.

.:Nichol:.

Fan-freaking-tastic, Opal! Oh, and I LOVE that white ruffley blouse-it’s gorgeous!

Oh my goodness!

That’s excellent! Congratulations.

Joe

mini gastric bypass is a horribly dangerous and awful surgery, btw. The guy who invented it has lost privileges at more hospitals than he has fingers and toes. BAD THING. Just for those of you who may be considering it.

I’m 38.3! I win!

Hell no, you aren’t fat! I’m really not sure where you’re going to find 20 more pounds to loss either. But I respect your wish to attain that goal.
I’m damn happy for you!

pretend I know how to spell lose…

I’m happy for you, Opal.

It says I’m fat :frowning:

I’m 6’0" and I weigh 200 lbs.

I fiddled with the BMI and found there’s a 40lb weight range at my height for healthy BMI. (Mine’s 23.0, btw) I was stunned at what was healthy–my body could not weigh that little unless I’ve been dead and decomposing for at least a few days. I’m not big-boned, but I’m not teeny-boned either.

My ideal weight (in my mind, at least) gives me a BMI of 20.9. But I don’t think I’ll be seeing that. 22.0 is prolly the best I’ll manage.

BTW Opal, you look fabulous! Good for you (and a half)! Strut that new self!

thanks!

shakes it

Opalcat: you look HOT! You are a curvy babe!

Congratulations Opal. I was pulling for you when you had the surgery (as a lowly lurker), and it’s fan-freaking-tasic to see how well you’re doing after it so far.

Good luck on the rest of the journey! Not far to go now!

Opal, that’s so great! You look wonderful and I bet you feel wonderful, too!

I love hearing stories like this. I’m having surgery tomorrow, in fact. I was looking into the DS, but since I have colitis, I was told that might get worse, so I’m going with the Laproscopic Roux-En-Y (gastric bypass).

Maybe I’ll be brave and post my pictures. I just took my before pictures and my measurements last night. You just never know how big you are until it’s right in your face. But doesn’t the camera add about 50 pounds?
