The doorbell rang a few minutes ago and when I went to the door there was a guy standing there and a big delivery truck in the street behind him.
He explained to me that he works for a big furnature distributor from South Carolina and that the place they were supposed to be delivering to went bankrupt so they were selling their stuff door-to-door to get rid of it. I told him I wasn’t interested and he went away.
Do these people really thing I’m that stupid? No honest business sells anything door-to-door like that. I can see them selling it to the Building 19 down the street but not on the street to random people.
The strange thing is that it was furniture - generally you hear about these things being electronics.
I actually went for a job interview that turned out to be that. I had to ride around with a guy in his truck with a bunch of pictures from a warehouse and he tried to finagle his way into office buildings, etc and tell people they were leftover from a new building that just went up and people could have them for only $20 each. We stopped for lunch and I made him take me back to my car. Come on! Who could sleep at night doing that?
We get a lot of “I’m working my way through college” guys, and the weirdest was two kids who claimed to be from art school trying to sell things from their portfolio. I just looked at them like “you MUST be joking!”
I never buy art by price. I only buy it to go with my couch. Since we just got a new couch, it looks like I’ll be needing some new art.
