Todd Haynes’ biopic-as-multiple-fantasy really worked for me. I’m not a huge fan, but I enjoy a lot of Dylan’s music. And, of course, I appreciate his huge impact on popular music.
Blanchett steals the show, I think…never for a moment did I forget it was Kate, but she still pulled if off somehow. Bale is his usual chameleon self. Marcus Franklin’s Woody…what an interesting idea. Heath Ledger’s thread was the least interesting to me, but I understand how his story fit in. The meeting with the Moptops was amusingly portrayed in a brief scene. And…David Cross as Ginsberg? Perfect!
Even after reading the reviews, I wasn’t sure what to expect. So I went in with an open mind and just went along for the ride. What I liked the most was the way Haynes captured the feel of the 60s. Thumbs up.
