I'm officially disowning my hometown.

So this video represents a “large precentage” of liberals, whereas the half-dozen videos posted on this board from McCain rallys represent a “tiny percentage” of conservatives? I’m gonna need to see your work, here. How did you arrive at that answer?

Don’t forget, that one guy also yelled “No war!” That’s got to be pretty offensive to a McCain supporter.

I like the choice of music in Starving Artist’s clip. Especially interesting if the pictured festival is an African-American Day celebration.

SA doesn’t think about things and arrive at answers as much as he just subconsciously spews crazy shit at random. I like to think of it as Schizophrenic Tourette’s.

And I wonder why it’s ipso-facto their conclusion that McCain supporters are racist.

Oh, wait…I do know. It’s because they’ve drunk the kool-aid, too!

Are conservatives verbotten now from even showing up when certain groups march? Are we all to cover ourselves in sackcloth and ashes and hide in doorways somewhere because we’re not worthy? (Somehow I feel I can predict the answer.)

It’s a free country, chum, and as long as they’re marching peacefully and legally, they have every right to be there.

I swear that liberals are the most repressive and dictatorial people in this country today. McCarthy got it wrong. Our basic rights to freedom of speech, belief and action are under far greater attack from the left than they ever were by the commies after WWII.

As long as your ilk think so, I can sleep soundly at night.

The easy answer is that their behavior is typical of liberals around here, whereas the behavior of the assholes supporting McCain is not typical of the conservatives around here.

I’d wager that you believe (correctly, IMO) that Muslim extremists represent a small segment of the Muslim faith. How do you come to that conclusion?

Simple. It’s common sense, based on how few there are relative to the overall number of followers of the faith. Same here. You won’t find very many conservatives acting like those people act, but you’ll find a large proportion of liberals acting the way the liberals in that video act.

I don’t know if that’s where they were marching, but there was an African-American Day parade that took place in Manhattan that day (on 111th Street & Adam Clayton Powell Boulevard to 142nd Street). If the McCain people chose to march in that vicinity, that would be pretty provocative, IMO. Incidentally, there was a Mexican Day parade and a couple other street festivals going on in Manhattan that day, also.

Yeah, you could tell that easily from the fire hoses and attack dogs that were sicced on the McCain supporters during their march. New York liberals are a vicious pack of brownshirts, all right.

Slight hijack-hey, I didn’t know you were here in Pittsburgh! Awesome!
There’s a woman in my neighborhood (I’m out here in the North Hills) with McCain signs and a bunch of “Nobama” and “No Socialism!” signs. Of course, she also has Michael Savage bumper stickers and parks her motorcycle and big-ass SUV in the middle of the road. I see about an even number of campaign signs. Still, I don’t see Allegheny County going Republican.
Starving Artist, why is it that we’re supposed to immediately denounce the Obama supporters that act like this, or we’re just like them, and yet, you only sit there and make excuses for these racist fucksticks? No one said ALL McCain supporters are like them-just that they’re the ones getting all the publicity and attention?

So, in other words, exactly the sort of selection bias you’ve been consistently accused of, and refuse to acknowledge. Okay, just checking.

I believe that an alien landing here and reading the Straight Dope would quite clearly get the impression that people around here are of the impression that the racist fucksticks represent a significant proportion of conservatives in this country.

Oh, I dunno. Maybe it’s because you come out with stuff like this below, getting people’s backs up and making them hostile to any possible pertinent point you may have made?

I do not concede that the left comes by this “naturally”. What the hell does that even mean? You are so blinded by your own prejudice regarding liberals you cannot see the difference in general booing vs racial and character slurs.

The people watched, booed and flipped the bird at the marchers. No one offered violence, none used racially charged language. (I believe one man called McCain a “pig”), IOW, it wasn’t personal. Your video attempts to marginalize an entire city, New York, by suggesting that those not jeering are “out of towners” or “foreigners visiting”. Ridiculous.

I see bad behavior on both side, certainly, but nothing like the rhetoric that is coming from the right. I have watched the whole thing. The captions are hardly objective–some are disingenuous, others are outright inflammatory. Upper west-siders would welcome Al-Queda more than American patriots? Since when are McCain supporters patriots and New Yorkers aren’t? Your video has no moral high ground–it distorts and demeans those whom it attempts to elevate and those it attempts to demonize.
I also don’t see them as “worse” than the wingnuts screaming “terrorist” and other slurs at McCain rallies. There is no tit for tat in my mind. “Glorious liberal progress” or some such? That sounds like Chairman Mao to me.

We have freedom of speech in this country and while I don’t like much of what is said, I do recognize the right of people to express themselves. I think you have mistaken that right for entitlement to approval.

I deny hypocrisy in my refusal to abide with intolerance. It is not wrong to stand up and say, “this is wrong.” The hate spewed by some at the rallies for McCain toward Obama is wrong. And it is wrong of the Reps to tacitly encourage it and lame as hell for McCain to half-ass try to stop it. Were the hecklers during the march rude? You bet. But that’s as far as Ill go. The hecklers at the McCain rallies are dangerous, not just rude.

Hmmmmm, I wonder, I wonder. Where could anyone have gotten afunny idea (caution: PDF file) like that? It’s madness, I tell you!!

Oh, I’m sorry. I missed the part of the video where they were assaulted or arrested for demonstrating. Could you please tell me the part I need to fast forward to to see that?

I believe that an alien landing here and reading the Straight Dope would quite clearly get the impression that people around here are of the impression that the racist fucksticks represent a significant proportion of conservatives in this country.

On the other hand, the people in the video I posted are almost carbon copies of the way liberals around here act, thus the appearance that you all must be the same. This impression is further strengthened by the fact that getting in peoples’ faces has been de riguer for the leftists driving the movement ever since the late sixties.

It means just what I said. That the few righties behaving badly re McCain almost certainly do not go about acting like that as they go about their daily lives. IOW, they are misbehaving for effect. They also represent a very small segment of conservatives as a whole.

On the other hand, I’ve seen liberals behaving exactly the way the liberals in that video behave for decades now, and they are the ones who’ve gained enough clout and sufficient numbers to impact the direction society takes.

I’ve seenthis in the country at large since the late sixties, I see it here, and I see it in the New York video. It’s how a great many of you guys go about your daily lives. “Agree with me or be deemed detestable scum unworthy of either respect or consideration” would seem to be their motto, and they then behave accordingly.

Part of what has fucked up civility in this country is the propensity of the left to think trailer-park style behavior is not only justifiable but necessary whenever someone either disagrees with it or fails to agree with it quickly enough.

Even stranger considering that seven years ago these New Yorkers dealt first-hand with actual terrorists invading their city, killing their families, neighbors, friends. Conservatives and liberals alike from all over the country were saying things like “We’re all New Yorkers.” I would imagine these liberal Upper west-siders even got behind that ol’ conservative president in the days following that terrorist attack, fully expecting him to go after with everything he had and capture that terrorist who was responsible for killing thousands of New Yorkers. Not get us involved in a quagmire in Iraq.

But now that these lib’rul upper west-siders have come to the conclusion that that “dead or alive” promise was nothing more than smoke up their asses from a conservative administration why they’re nothing but capitalist-hating, terrorist-loving lavishly-living bullies.

The funniest part of the video was the text-over at 4:02 that says that them there liberals hate “individual liberties.” So now the *conservatives *are the champions of the ACLU? When did this happen?

It’s one of those times when someone gets so blinded by insane partisan fever that they lose absolutely all sense of reason and just spout random sound-bitey things and hope they sound good. There’s no real meaning behind it.

And another unanswered shout of “kill him” at a Palin rally, this time in Scranton, PA. The speaker was someone named Chris Hackett, apparently a candidate for Congress from that district. You know, I’m beginning to wonder if the McCain/Palin ticket might be turning a blind eye to this sort of thing.

Whoa, whoa, whoa…wait a second. Lefties have “trailer-park style behavior”? I thought we were latte-drinking elitists?

The Arugula Hills Trailer park averages 1.2 Starbucks per manufactured home. The family of Joe Six-pack has moved out, finding a middle class job netting 4 million a year.

Wow. I think I’ve seen all the nasty videos of republicans posted here this week, but this is just pitiful.

I’m not even angry at them: those people just seem completely confused and stupid. I can understand people being a bit confused and frustrated that not everybody agrees with them, but those guys just seem to have no thoughts whatsoever except that the “other guys” are evil, and they don’t even seem to feel strongly about that.

Not that I live in your country, but where the hell did you get the idea that the right is any better in that regard?
