I'm officially ethical! Ask me anything! (Passed the MPRE)

Hi, all. I just passed the Multi-state Professional Responsibility Exam (MPRE), the legal ethics exam that most state bars require applicants to take. Technically, each state bar has their own passing score - but I did well enough that I could qualify for entry into any of them, so I think I can justifiably say “I passed” without caveat. This is no great distinction, by the way - most people “pass” without difficulty. Still, this is another milestone on the road to becoming a lawyer, and I’m damn pleased with myself.

This also means that the National Conference of Bar Examiners has vouched for my character!* I am officially a fine, unstanding paragon of virtue.** And so I invite all the Dopers in the land - pose me your ethical conundrums! I shall produce the most moral, ethical answer possible.***

*This is completely untrue.
**This is even more completely untrue.
***I think Truth just threw up in its mouth a little.

Nothing to ask, I just wanted to say congratulations. My husband asked me to fetch his score for him and he passed, too (in CA). W00t!

Thanks Queen Bruin! Congratulations to your husband, too. Be sure to point out that the National Conference of Bar Examiners has affirmed that he has inerrant moral judgment.

So sez them!

Have you taken the bar yet? I forgot to sign up for the MPRE, so I had to take it after I took the bar. All my friends had already taken the MPRE when they got their bar results and got sworn in right away, which they made sure to frequently mention.

Nope, not yet - I still have that to look forward to in July of 2009. Can’t I just get by on my sterling character?

Speaking of - darnit, people, where are the ethical conundrums? I demand the chance to slice infants in two!

Good for you for getting it out of the way, then, you won’t have to wait for official lawyerhood for a month or so like I did. Any of it trip you up, or was it pretty straightforward?

Was pretty straightforward - I skipped most of my last-minute studying in favor of reading CNN’s coverage of the war in Georgia (exam was August 8), but the test seemed to mostly stay away from the rules I hadn’t reviewed. I was very lucky.

So…

Didja cheat on the test?
