I'm on a fairy tale kick... Somebody stop me!

OK so I just watched “Ever After” and boo hooed like a little girl. Geez, I never used to be so sappy. I blame it on… the weather, yeah! The weather! But I absolutely loved it.

Now, I’m about to go watch “A Knight’s Tale” which, if I know anything about knight movies, will also make me cry. And of course there was “The Princess Bride” last week…

I swear, much more of this, I’m going to have to break out the pink tulle and braid my hair all girly-like. (Now there’s an amusing image.)

Anyway, anybody else on a movie kick?

(By movie kick, I mean on a “movie theme kick”.)

Sort of, but not really. I’ve been watching lots of Johnny Depp movies lately. Since joining Netflix, he’s become one of my more favorite actors when before, I didn’t care about him one way or the other.

I’m watching Pirates of the Carribean in my other window right now, actually. Just on a brief board surfing break.

I’m sorry.
There is no help for you.
Your affliction will get worse and worse.
The prognosis is Grimm.

There has been an ongoing Colin Firth marathon in our household for the past two weeks. We rented Pride and Prejudice to fast-forward through all of the non-Darcy scenes (“Oh, we’ve all read the book,” as my dear Mama said), both Bridget Jones movies, Love, Actually, and The Importance of Being Earnest. Skipped Shakespeare in Love because he’s too puffy in that one.

Tonight we’re rounding it off with What a Girl Wants, which will be total crap, but apparently Mr. Firth dances in leather pants, so there you have it.

Ohhhh that was bad.

Good! But so bad. ::groangles:: <— a spur of the moment word meaning groan and giggle at the same time.

I can always get on board for a Firthfest (and actually, all things considered, “What a Girl Wants” is not really as crap as I expected to be. Bubblegum for the brain

Just so you know, A Knight’s Tale isn’t a fairy tale, but it is a delight, if you are willing to suspend historical accuracy for a time.

Very very sweet movie. Plus, you get to see Chaucer’s bum. (Twice!)

'Nuff said.

Paul Bettany’s bum alone is worth the price of admission. (Plus Rufus Sewell as the baddie. That man… mrrowr!)

Sign me up for a Firthfest!

“You have been weighed. You have been measured. And you have been found wanting.”

Not to mention, “Bed him well, my lady. Bed him well,” and

Ademar, “I, myself, have never been unhorsed.”

Jocelyn, “Nor have I.”

Hee hee hee.

Oh, I absolutely loved Knight’s Tale. I realized it wasn’t going to be what I was initially expecting when “We Will Rock You” kicked in (further confirmed by the people in the stands doing the wave!) What an absolutely hilarious and fun movie.
And oh my, I have always been a fan of Paul Bettany but seeing that butt just raised him a notch or three. Wooo hoo!

Maybe we need a Knight’s Tale Appreciation thread. And for me, it wasn’t just the butt, but him pulling a thorn out of his foot with his teeth while he’s standing.

That is a man with co-ordination.

Hell just the fact that he could reach his foot to his mouth - standing or otherwise - but kinda cool for me. Maybe we need a Paul Bettany appreciation thread…

TellMeI’mNotCrazy, it sounds like you need to schedule a viewing of Freeway. I’m not sure whether it will feed your fairy tale craving or end it abruptly, but at least it’s not a girly fairy tale movie.

Freeway may well be one of the most bizarre movies I have ever seen.

I don’t think I could speak coherently for 5 minutes after the ending. It was truly surreal.

I loved Freeway, which I saw after Legally Blonde* (which I saw after Election, come to think of it – anyone up for a WTF hijack on Reese Witherspoon’s career?).

And, yeah, Knight’s Tale definitely started my Paul Bettany crush. Fun movie!

For Colin Firth at top-of-his-game yumminess, don’t forget Valmont!

Chiming in the say I loved “Ever After” as mentioned in the original post. It is my favorite telling of the Cinderella story.

In that case avoid The Tenth Kingdom. I forget how many discs that runs.
