What is it about shoving a TV camera in someone’s face that makes them want to scream in joy and excitement? Or is it feined?
Shows like Today and MTV’s TRL play on this all the time, at least before each commercial break.
You’ve seen it… people gathering in herds in Rockafeller Center, Times Square and the like just to get on television? Or is there more to it than that?
What is the attraction? Is it really that much fun? Have any of you ever participated?
Man, I really hate it on game shows and talk shows, then they pan the audience before commercial break, there’s always that one idiot who’s waving at the moniter instead of the camera, so they’re off by 55 degrees and look like total assholes. God, that annoys me.
My older cousin was on TLC’s “A Baby Story” this past April. The show loves big family parties, so they took some footage from a family Christmas party. I spent the whole time running away from the camera. Alas, they managed to get 2.5 seconds of the back of my head while unwrapping presents.
My sister, on the otherhand, was all over the place, doing everything she could to get on TV. She didn’t get much more TV time than I did, maybe 5 seconds or so, but they did get the side of her face.
My sister managed to get on TV 3 times yesterday while standing outside TRL studios. She is a huge fan of Jennifer Lopez, who was a guest. As a part of the show, the audience (both inside the studio and out on the sidewalk) was allowed to ask Jennifer questions. A girl right next to my sister got to ask a question and was then invited to come upstairs. The look on my sister’s face was that of complete horror.
Anyways… That’s about it for my brush with the TV world.
Oh, and to answer the OP, no, it wasn’t that much fun, for me anyways. It was interesting to see how the cameras work though.
