I'm one of the reasons it's taking longer than you thought.

I responded to a post in GQ by quoting some material from one of the training manuals I use. (No link posted. I’m embarrassed enough.) Of course, there was an error in part of my response. (Leave it to the TM to set things straight.) But it’s been bugging me ever since, so this morning I did some more checking. That manual has been updated not once, but twice, since the information I quoted became erroneous, and nobody had caught the error prior to my boo-boo on the SDMB.

Well, ain’t that groovy?

I’d really, really love to be able to say, “It’s not my fault! I was just presenting the information I was given! It’s Tech Desk’s fault! All the other instructors used the same material, and they didn’t know it was wrong either! Neener, neener, whine, whine.”

But I won’t. It was my fault. I’ve been in this business for 22 years; I should’ve known better.

But I will say this to the people who supply me the material that I’m supposed to use to teach brand new travel agents…

*Listen here, you rotten, ruptured, rat 'rhoids! I catch and fix your errors wayyyy too often. May the next time you call to make a reservation to go to Portland, Oregon, you get the agent whom you told the city code for that city was PWM, so you end up visiting the great State of Maine! May that same agent mis-price your ticket so you get denied boarding on your return. May you try to check into your hotel only to find you have no reservation because you provided the wrong format to guarantee it for late arrival. May you be stuck in the airport in Sao Paolo, Brazil because the visa requirements you listed were wrong. May you take your wife and young children on vacation to Jamaica only to find that the reason you got such a cheap hotel room is because there was a last minute cancellation and the rest of the hotel is full due to the annual swinger’s convention and your agent didn’t tell you. *

Surprisingly mild, but with a certain kick.

I give it a 7.5.

Would you mind updating and letting us know more about this annual swingers convention?

I would definitely be pissed off if I was given wrong information by someone who should have been in the know, especially since a travel agent is working with people’s hard earned money. Smarten up you dumb ass manual writers!
