I'm part of a Straight Dope Classic

Thanks, Ed, Dex, and Cecil.

Okay, who wants to be the first to touch me?

The link was still loading, so I didn’t realize how serious this subject was. I retract my flirt.

Instead, thanks for helping Cecil eradicate ignorance on this heart-breaking subject.

Very informative, mags.

Mani, I believe that is what’s called unfortunate irony.

Is that you getting in line, manny? Shall I pencil you in?

I don’t mean to be obnoxious, but I was really glad they published the letter. I did a lot of research on trafficking when I worked in the foreign aid biz, and the stuff these women and kids go through is unbelievable. To be able to educate people about the problem is a great thing, and to be published by Cecil, aka “the best”, has me on cloud nine. So I’ll just be grinning over here.

Great job. I know how you feel. I was thrilled when Cecil answered one of my letters in a long column, and didn’t laugh at me or think I was a nut. (he didn’t know the answer himself!)

Very informative, magda.

Woohoo! I know someone who’s been answered by Cecil! (If that’s not living vicariously, I don’t know what is.)

Congratulations, Magdalene! You are 100 percent involved in the fight against ignorance, to the extent you have educated Cecil Adams!

The issue is indeed heartbreaking, as is the situation with the treatment of women in the Taliban-dominated Afghanistan. (This article is a little old, but details many of the repressions: Buried Alive: Afghan Women Under the Taliban

My immature, irrational jealousy is only superceded by my pride. Way to go!

(I know her!)
