I'm posting from my cell phone!

This is so frickin’ cool. My computer went down. Not cool, it won’t boot into Windows, but I’m going to call a techie tomorrow and get it sorted out. In the meantime, I have Opera installed on my cell phone, so I thought I’d see if I could get to this site just for a hoot. It renders this site in perfect HTML, just sized to fit a cell phone screen. It’s not perfect, and typing gets a little slow, but it’s miles better than the standard WAP browser found on most cell phones. Hopefully, I’ll be back on the PC tomorrow, but I just wanted to share how neat I find a real browser on a cell phone to be.

who is your carrier? because I supposedly have web acess on my Verizon phone, but I’ve never tried it

Cheeseincrust I hate texting. If I were the author of this thread it would look like this:

Nuff’ said.

Opera? Let me guess, a Windows Mobile-based phone? I’ve had to do that when my computer was down. I broke out my PocketPC, connected to the wireless router, and posted on a local computer help forum to see if people could help me figure out what the heck was wrong with my rig. It’s pretty damn handy, even if typing on an on-screen keyboard is a pain in the ass. I could use my Treo, but the data plan for the cell provider I use is mind-bogglingly expensive, and the phone doesn’t have WiFi. :stuck_out_tongue:

You can do that in the States?
I work with such gear so I know it can be done, I just thought most of the US was working off of analogue systems.

You can do it with Internet Explorer for Windows Mobile, too (I think it comes with it).

Opera on a cell has its good points – tabbed browsing (an especial advantage since IE for Mobile doesn’t allow multiple windows), but is slow and seems to crash my computer a bit.

I don’t post – the keyboard is a pain in the ass, though I can use Graffiti if I need to take any serious notes – but I can view the site.

Anyone with an Internet phone can post, though.

I wonder how long it will be now before we see an MPSIMS thread with an OP stating that someone’s hiking in Utah, that a boulder has rolled onto their arm and “Help, what should I do?”

I would never try to access this site from my cell phone’s browser (which is whatever one Verizon provides), because it’s way too tiny and slow. But I have accessed this site from my new PDA (a Palm T|X), which has built-in WiFi. Haven’t posted from it, though. Yet.

The computer tech will be here in about an hour, so i thought I’d check for replies. I know some of you are a bit skeptical. I was too. I’m using a Samsung ZX-20 on the AT&T network. T9 input, so yeah, it’s a lot like texting. It’ll run on most Java-enabled phones. You can get info at http://operamini.com It’s no substitute for a PC, but it’s nice for some quick on-the-go browsing.

From the Opera Mini home page: “The service is not available to Verizon Wireless subscribers yet.” :frowning:

You have to search to find a new phone that has analog capability now. I and my wife had had phones capable of browsing the web for at least 7 years. We have had phones with decent bandwidth for at least 3 years. Almost all big cities in the US have one and probably both camps of 3G service and have had for a few years.

That’s great, kid!

(Don’t get cocky.)
