Darn you all for your zombiesurvivalthreads! I’m so intrigued that I think I may be ready to see what this is all about. So where do I get started? Zombie movie? Survival Guide? World War Z? I know nothing about zombies (or survival, FTM) and it’s maybe not so much simply zombies that I’m interested in, but the whole notion of saving myself if the shit ever goes down, whether it be zombies or some other society-collapsing catastrophe.
As far as movies go, the last really scary movie I ever watched (and the one that made me stop watching scary movies for years) was 28 Days Later. I was living way out in the country and happened to watch this movie on a night when I was home alone, and well, you can figure it out from there. Since taking the Zombie Survival Quiz and getting a bit excited about the whole thing (I got a terrible score), I bucked up and decided to watch I Am Legend last week (I don’t think 28DL/IAL count as true zombie movies, they just both have a zombie-like “save yourself and get to the safe zone” theme, right?) I’ve heard that there aren’t any really, truly good zombie movies, but I don’t know if this is accurate.
Anyway- the whole survivalist thing has got me intrigued and I can’t stop thinking about how to save myself from zombies! (like, I’m sitting here with my back to the door and no weapons nearby- BIG mistake!)
What’s the perfect plan to really get myself immersed (in a fun way) in zombie survival?
I think the whole thing was started by Max Brooks and his Zombie Survival Guide. There have been a lot of people copying this idea since then. I also think that World War Z is going to be the most successful zombie movie of all time because of it. The idea was brilliant.
There is also a book called How to Survive a Robot Uprising, and I think Mike Meyers is going to make a movie about it. Everybody has to copy a really good idea.
“Be prepared” is the summary of almost all survival tips. Some zombie-specific advice:
Zombies are not undefeatable, but they are unlike almost any other hazard, except maybe a horde of army ants. They never rest and they never give up. Your strategies must take this into account.
One shot in a zombie’s head is more effective than 100 shots anywhere else.
Relying on motor vehicles can be a subtle trap; are you betting your life that your transportation will keep moving?
The collapse of social order can be a worse problem than the zombies themselves.
No one who has not been inspected for bites, and ideally done a week in quarantine, can be presumed safe.
Once an outbreak reaches pandemic levels, containment will no longer be possible; efforts will need to be refocused on keeping enclaves of survivors alive.
The primary person in charge of keeping you alive is you.
