I'm seeing ads again at the top of the page

I’m a Charter Member; why am I seeing ads?

And now Trump’s approval poll ad is at the bottom of this thread!

I paid for mine too, but see ads on almost every page.

Okay, that IS weird. I have an adblocker going— maybe that’s it? I don’t see ads on my computer, but when I look at the board on my kindle, I do see ads.

Probably. I’m on my work computer right now so additional programs, like adblockers, are verboten.

Oh, that could be it. I have Adblock Plus, Disconnect, and Privacy Badger installed. I think I installed Adblock Plus around the time I stopped seeing ads, but that’s depending on my often unreliable memory for personal events.

I might even have installed it because of the ads I was seeing, even though they were text only.

The subscription system that we had on vBulletin did not port over to Discourse. TubaDiva was investigating how we could handle subscriptions, advertising, etc. under Discourse but the issue was still under investigation when she passed.

We are aware of the issue and it’s on the list of things that need fixed. Unfortunately I do not have any info beyond that at the moment.

Yes, the ad-blocker may be the reason you’re not seeing ads.

I paid for a subscription, and I see ads. Lately though, they’ve been coming and going. Sometimes they’re there, sometimes not. But usually are.

Like I said, the subscription system did not port over. Discourse has no idea if you are a paid subscriber or not since the system currently has no idea what a subscription is. It’s on the list of things to be fixed.

Does it do any good or any harm to “report” the add as “inappropriate?”

I’ve been doing a lot of that. Does that mean the SDMB gets less revenue from the ad?

Or if we all clicked on every ad for a few days, would the SDMB get rich?

Moderators aren’t involved at all in the financial side of things here, so I don’t have a freaking clue.

I’m guessing that it’s best to only report ads as inappropriate if they are actually inappropriate, i.e. spam, porn, offensive, attempts to hijack the page, contains malware, etc.

All ads are inappropriate if we were promised no ads for subscribers. I understand their working on it, and it’s not a big deal (much less obnoxious than the ads at the old site.)

Still, if I sett a Trump ad, or some other ad that bugs me, I’m going to “report” it, hoping someone somewhere will get one less fraction of a cent in income. (I really have no idea how the money flows with the click-on ads).

One ad says it will enable me to do away with “annoying ads.” Another is a pro-Chump ad.The already-small chances of my ever paying money to renew my membership are rapidly diminishing.

Can we at least get rid of the Rontar ad suite? Unlike Google ads, the user cannot control their content and Rontar keeps trying to push right-wing swag.

Still getting that right-wing redneck swag pushed at me.

I don’t really mind ads at the top of a page or ads at the bottom of the page but now I’m seeing ads between posts! There are at least three on this very page.

Don’t bother telling me to get an ad blocker. I read from my work computer to break up the monotony and can’t install one.

I just came in to post the same thing. Until now, I was only seeing them at the top of a forum or thread, and I could easily scroll past and ignore them. Now, they appear to be larger than they were before, and I am also seeing them within a thread (between posts) and at the end of the thread. Jeez, it’s like being back on Tapatalk again!

And apparently someone really thinks I should be doing on-line yoga. I don’t want to.

Something seems to have changed. Even with adblock, the ad banner space now has a fixed width that messes up mobile viewing.

Fortunately, I was able to use the element picker to block both the empty space and the text “Advertisement”.

But, still, neither of those should have a fixed or minimum size.

I just noticed that I’m no longer seeing any ads or blank “Advertisement” spaces on my work computer. Yay, and kudos to whoever is responsible!
