Recently I was looking at some fossil displays. The placards said that the flora was typical of a subtropical climate. I thought it was interesting in that today this area is an inhospitable barren wasteland of a desert. 50 million years ago, the general climate was much warmer, 10-15ºC warmer on average.
So, yeah, we’re going to see so much major flooding in Nevada there will be rivers and lakes and fucking forests … FORESTS growing all over the state … how rude. Dude, if you don’t think that’s EVIL, then you’re an asshole and don’t understand science.

Now Ryan might not know anything about the climate wars, but his photo is data. It might actually be some névé, or even firn, which is very unexpected. This sort of thing has been reported in Scotland since 2010, which is hard to imagine, since global warming is supposed to make winters warmer than ever, with less snow.
Except of course after 6 or 7 years of winters with record snow, now we are supposed to believe global warming will make it snow more. But the amount of weasel words used makes it impossible to know much of anything about it.
Certainly unusual summer snow doesn’t mean much, if it’s an anomaly, because fuck, that’s weather. Sometimes it just gets cold as fuck (and snows a lot), because nature, and we actually don’t even know why. Same for unusual warm winters, nobody actually fucking knows. Which is why climate is about long term trends and averages, because fuck weather.
So if there is firn growing in Scotland, it only means anything if it lasts. One year means shit. Which is why I show trends, not anomalies, because one cold day, or hot day, means little. Hell, even one winter means little for climate. Summer snow in Scotland might mean nothing at all.
Just as some hot days in Portland OR means little. Records show it has happened before, even long ago. No, it’s trends that matter.
Using the quality data from Satellites, we know with almost no doubt, that something changed for the NH winters. Surface data also show this, but the GISS maps don’t allow you to see regional data for areas, much less trends by regions.
Even so, the GISS data shows clearly the trends. Like Scandinavia, which has a clear trend of colder winters since 1990. Using February data, the trend for most of the NH shows up as well. Why and how this happened is actually a mystery. But it certainly isn’t greenhouse theory, basic global warming theory does not, can not, predict or explain that sort of trend. Cherry picking 1998 as the start of the trend is deemed unfair, but damn if it doesn’t show the problem. The summer trend from 98 shows a lot of warming.
The problem with this is known to those who understand the theory. Winters in the NH, overland, are supposed to warm the most. Not summers. In fact, warming summers (and spring) with cooling winters is the exact opposite of the theory.
As always, this does not mean we are not fucking up the climate, nor that the increase in CO2 isn’t happening. It just means the data has shown the theory is wrong.
But this seems to throw true believers into a fit, which is really strange. Science doesn’t work like that. But religion and politics certainly does.

OK maybe after the 2015 August data comes in. It’s ironic that the record cold day in August in Georgia is the starting post.
Because that area isn’t showing August warming. It is of course showing the serious colder winter trends, which is mind blowing. Unless you agree with Cohen, that it’s actually caused by warming.
I don’t know what causing it, and since nobody else does either, it would be hubris to claim I do. Hell, just getting a warmer to even see the data is impossible, so there is zero chance bitching about it will matter at all.
The people who actually care about the trends are the ones who have to clear the snow and ice, treat roads and prepare for the winter ahead of time. To them, it matters a lot. It’s life or death. Not having enough snow plows, sand salt and such, can be a real problem.
Same for those ships that can’t deliver supplies because of heavy sea ice. You tell people the polar sea ice might be gone by now, and Hudson Bay has record sea ice in August, and ships can’t get through, it’s an actual problem.
Predicting the future is hard.
