The “warming” refers to the average global temperature, which is measurably increasing over any ten year average across the last two centuries. (We can debate the distirbution of measurements and what the trend line actually represents, but nobody with one functioning eye and an IQ over 85 can deny that global average temperature is on the increase.) Of course, average high temperatures can come along with more extreme minima, and in fact anyone who has even a cursory knowledge of climate modeling understands that more extreme swings from the global average are part and parcel with a less precisely regulated climate. In the worst case, the convection currents in the oceans which regulate the distribution of heat energy are disrupted, and aggressive temperature swings–both hot and cold–occur as a regular basis, accompanied by extreme weather events such as massive hurricane and cyclone systems.
The only “cult religion” in regard to climate is the one which elects to ignore actual measured data and climate models of increasing fidelity in favor of the mantra that this is always as it has been and always will be. Only complete deniers of science could possibly doubt global warming. They make me want to puke. Last year global warming was clearly responsible for an almost ice free arctic, and this year it has caused the coldest arctic climate ever recorded.
Obviously global warming is a huge danger. ignore any of the stories about Fukushima leaking massive amounts of radiation into the oceans. It’s just smoke and mirrors to avoid looking at the real threat, which is you and your fossil fuel use.
