I’ve just had the second oral surgery on me in the last 18 days.
Today, an extraction.
This time, no sedative, just locals, because there is nobody to drive me there & back.
I’m so tired.
So damn tired.
And no decent meals for weeks.

Where are you, bro? Perhaps there is a Doper in the neighborhood that can give you a hand, or bring over a burrito.
My mother in law just went through something like this. She fell down and broke her jaw where her teeth connect and required three oral surgeries to correct it. She said she actually gained weight from all the smoothies she drank (and felt horrible.) For a while she had temporary teeth. I’m not really sure how it all worked but she had one problem after another, and now that she’s got the repairs done there are certain issues she will have for life.
Sounds horrible. But she is through the worst of it now and someday for you, too, this will be a bad memory. I hope that’s not cold comfort. For me, as a youth, I actually got a tattoo of the word “impermanence” (in Sanskrit) because when I’m going through something rough, it helps me to remember it won’t last forever. Nothing ever does.
(Also, I’m tired too, for different reasons. And it just sucks feeling tired all the time. I feel you there.)
Best wishes for a speedy recovery.
Yikes.
Just sleep. I hope you have no work or engagements for a day or 3.
Tomato soup is good after oral surgery. Drink fluids. Keep hydrated. Don’t suffer through the pain. Take the meds and stay ahead of the pain.
I refused the painkillers.
No Opiods for me.
Acetaminophen only.
No solid food, friend. Can’t chew.
Just soups & yogurt & soft stuff.
And more later this month, and next month.
“Nurse Jasmine” stepping in here! Your mouth needs to be left alone, and you need to eat some good soup, take supplements, and R-E-S-T!! Do you have any family or good friends who can look in on you every day for a week or two? I expect you to behave and take of yourself!
Oh, my.
No wonder you’re suffering.
I understand the risk of opioids. I’ve had my issues.
But there are times when there’s just no other way. One bottle of Tramadol or Hydrocodone does not make an addict.
But you know your limits.
Good luck.
Smoothie recipe:
One banana.
One tight cup of coarsely chopped kale.
One carton vanilla yogurt(low fat, low sugar)
1/2 c. Frozen mixed veggies
1/2 Frozen strawberries.
Enough unsweetened juice(pineapple is good, but really any kind)to blend in a blender.
Blend.
Lotte Lenya looked good for her age.
And don’t forget, drinking a smoothie is worth 7 points towards going to Heaven.
Good grief. She wasn’t but 27 yo when she was in Blazin’ Saddles.
How young do you want them to be?
Umm … it was a joke. Lotta Lenye was an Austrian singer in the 1920’s & 30’s.
Listen to Madeline Kahn singing in Blazing Saddles then listen to this.
Whatever.
Nope.
All dead or moved away.
Not to be nosy but how come? Acetaminophen will only go so far to relieve pain.
Opioids are not only a scourge, here in Tennessee, but they make people look at you askance.
And I’d rather suffer than take the chance of getting hooked.
Too many people do.
Yep. I’ve been given opioids, but I tend not to finish them. I’ll take acetaminophen after the first day or two.
My apologies for being nosy. It’s wise to be wary of them. It’s something you can talk to your doctor about. 15 years ago I got a huge bottle from my Dentist for wisdom teeth. I mean a huge bottle. Times have changed. My current doctor is very strict on such prescriptions because of the fallout of what you described.
Opioids are not a monolithic prescription. they come in all prescription strengths. You will not get the giant bottle I got years ago. You will likely get the lowest dose for a very limited time with no refill.
You know yourself better than anybody but addiction is front and center of anything prescribed to you.
Personally I’m drug averse. Alcohol makes me ill beyond 1 or 2 drinks so I’ll never be an alcoholic. I’m lucky in that regard and I know it. The same applies to the opioids I’ve taken. But when I need them I will take them and I write down when I take them to ensure I don’t take too many.
I wish you well with your pain.
I’m pretty sure if the opioid problem there is much like here you’ll get 16 pills. You won’t get hooked on 16.
And who’s gonna look askance? You don’t have to advertise. In fact I wouldn’t. The pharmacist doesn’t care. The doctor/dentist doesn’t care. They know who is drug “drug” shopping. I promise.
