Quite possibly. There was, as I indicated, a(nother) discussion yesterday about banning Ilsa. We reached a consensus in that discussion to terminate his privileges. But it appears that events have moved faster than actions. When the big red button was pushed we were unaware of this thread.

So. Now we are undertaking a discussion to restore Ilsa’s privileges. Sorry about the mix-up folks. It’s a little difficult to coordinate things and act in real-time across 3 continents and gawd knows how many time zones. Hang with us while we get this sorted out.

Bear in mind during that discussion that Ilsa’s original sin was starting a “joke thread.” This is a recurrent problem in the BBQ, and at the time of Lynn’s action, there were several other posters who could just as easily been suspended for the same offense. It seems unrealistic to expect someone who has been made an example of to respond with utter equanimity. Ilsa pretty much got around to it eventually, and that should count for a lot.

At any rate, I’m having trouble understanding why a consensus was reached to ban him. He was suspended for a thread that was only debatably a joke thread–especially debatable considering the documented general confusion regarding the then-ill-defined term “joke thread”–did his time, and broke no further rules. How was such a consensus reached? On what grounds?
