I'm sorry...?

I was really just creeped out. I’d like to use my own money to buy the things I need, not money given to me by some kid I don’t even know who’s getting his loan in a few weeks. Like I said, I get creeped out really easily.

I don’t even know why I’m explaining myself to ya’ll. I’m hungry. Gonna go eat. Study for exams, maybe. Hell, I got this shit downpat.

Eh, no need to apologize. You’re not the first to wander into the Pit without realizing what it’s all about. We’re not all assholes in real life, but here in the Pit, we kind of fucking are. It’s not always personal.

I second the suggestion to try MPSIMS or IMHO if you’re truly looking for advice or commisseration.
If you choose to hang out here in the Pit, be prepared to get dished out exactly what your whiny high-school drama-queen dictionary-hating ass has coming.

Troll. This is a schtick if I’ve ever seen one.

That was exactly my reaction. Should I just check the OP’s profile to search for threads he or she may have started or posts he or she may have written to see what the big deal is?

Let’s see. You’ve been through some tough shit, you’re from a dysfunctional family, you’re outspoken for your age, own a cat and blog on a message board. Yeah, you’ll do fine here.

Newly joined, non-dictionary using, high school drama queen

Or

Newly joined troll.
Your choice.

Oh no! Don’t go!

Dammit. Dismissed by yet another angry, self-important high schooler who already had all the answers before coming here for help.

Better just stay offa my lawn.

Yeah, we’ve been wondering the same thing since the OP.

This is at the bottom of a lot of the hostility here, St_Jimmy. See, the Dope does get trolled fairly regularly (usually without much skill) and some are so used to it that they call “troll!” at pretty much any new person that doesn’t live up to whatever vaunted expectations people here have for Dopers (which…lol). It’s like there’s gonna be some Great Audit of our posting accounts at the Day of Reckoning and everyone wants to make sure their skepticism is registered so that they’ve got a check in the column marked No I Did Not Fall For The Troll, You Can’t Pull One Over On Me No Siree Bob. If that means they act like total dicksticks to someone who maybe is a genuinely well meaning (if vaguely try-hard) kid, that’s a risk they’re willing to take.

Now, I don’t give a fuck if you are a troll or not. The possibility that you are isn’t enough to make me want to act like an ass to you on the chance that you are, but then again my ego isn’t so delicate as to be bruised at the idea of falling for your “schtick” if that’s what it is. If you are real, all I’ve got to say is that you shouldn’t worry so much about impressing posters here because a great many of them are not worth the effort.

Is it too late in the thread for a “this will end well?”

Why did you guys tell her to use a dictionary? Now she’ll be scarred for life.

You’re kidding, right? I’m sorry, that’s the most absurd thing I’ve ever heard.

Here, take a look at this:

Doesn’t get a whole lot shorter than that.

You know that scene in Return of the Jedi where Emperor Palpatine tries to sway Luke to the dark side?

That’s The BBQ Pit.

Don’t expect love here. Expect a pack of hungry snarking (oh fabulous typo, gotta leave that one) wolves.

No need to use a Carnac the Magnificent hat, nor an Ouija board or a crystal ball, everyone can see that the OP is a budding politician!

The OP doesn’t have to be a troll for me to think she’s a bit of a jerk. And starting out in the Pit with all guns firing, then getting her feellings hurt, well, that does nothing to contradict that thought.

Functionally, not a lot of difference.

(And I say that as the dad of one of each)

Am I missing something? All I see is that she started two Pit threads today (and not even about Dopers) and then started this one cause she wondered why people were being mean in the other two. That makes her a little annoying, but I don’t see how it makes her a jerk.

You and I are both much bigger jerks, so it seems like we ought to know the difference, n’est-ce pas?

I see that you joined the SDMB today, and in that time you’ve started three BBQ Pit threads. All but one of your posts so far have been in your own Pit threads. I also get the feeling that you didn’t spend much time reading the SDMB and getting a sense of our “culture” before you started posting.

This wasn’t the best way to begin here. You basically just barged in and expected others to take an interest in your problems. You did not even do so in the forum where SDMB members usually go when they are looking for patience and understanding (MPSIMS). Instead you chose the Pit, where snark and insults are permitted and more or less expected.

Frankly I do not think someone who is unwilling to use a dictionary is likely to ever fit in here, but if you’re planning to stick around then I’d advise you to read more, post less, and reply to other people’s threads more often than you start your own. And if you can’t take the heat, stay out of the BBQ Pit.

I’m not quite sure what contraction you’re using unless, of course, you’re assuming we all live in Yakima?

Okay, I’ve made that mistake before.
