Oh hey I can do the monkey with my arms and the cats don’t mind!
I’ve been pacing the halls trying to get my circulation going. Uhm… try the opposite of that!

Hi Opal. Hope you got a nap after all this.
For what it is worth, my current falling-asleep method is rather odd. I imaging fitting a door to nowhere into a granite cliff face. I have to measure the granite for the door size - usually it’s a double door. then I have remove the stone to a depth that the outer edge of the doors will be flush with the granite. Then I build the doors and paint them, then hang them on hinges and th…zzzzz
Actually, I’ve never gotten past the early stages. I don’t know why this knocks me out so well. counting up from one and figuring out whether each number is a prime is also good. You can’t just know it, you have to prove it. I usually don’t get past the teens.
See there you go. Keep it up, you’ll fall asleep in no time. Have you considered booze? I know that always puts me to sleep, but they’re really cracking down on the drinking and sleeping at work lately.
I actually was at a bar drinking last night. I had probably 4 drinks. Didn’t really feel them but no sleepiness either.
I self-hypnotize myself to sleep sometimes, but my self is not available for a road trip now.
Pah! Pah! What good are you if you can’t be here to hypnotize me to sleep? Sheesh. Some people…
Mt sleeping trick (cribbed from Fightclub) is to imagine my cave - it’s prehistoric times, so there are dangers everywhere, but my cave is awesome, it has bear rugs for me to wrap myself up in, and a hidden entrance, a natural chimney fissure that vents up from the mountain roof many feet above the small permanent fire I have for heat and cooking, it has a natural spring water pool flowing through a ridge in the floor. I lie in my cave and plan the next day’s hunting and gathering, and pretty soon I’m asleep.
I have severe insomnia. Even when I do fall asleep, I don’t do it well. I had a sleep study done and my brain is doing all kinds of stupid shit while I sleep instead of the patterns it’s supposed to do. I woke up 35 times during my study and got a total of like 10 minutes of REM sleep. It was sad. My diagnosis was “insomnia due to mental disorder”
great, now it’s 7am, the sun is up, my son is awake and fixing breakfast… arg.
We’re watching Zodiac (the Fincher film) now - A little spooky.
Sorry to hear about your insomnia -
Try and get in rhythm with the new day for now, and hopefully you’ll get some well-deserved kip later - best of luck!
I’ll fall asleep eventually. Hopefully sooner rather than later. I think I may try to go lie down in a few minutes.
awwwww, I hate waking/staying up way too early, and having to start another day without sound sleep.
When I can’t sleep, like when I have a lot on my mind or I’m just wound up, I just lie there in the dark and tell myself to chill, that even if the brain won’t stop buzzing, I can at least give my body some physical rest. Stretch, get really comfy, and just relax. When I feel like I’ll really screw up the next day without sleep, that worry alone will keep me awake, so I try to defuse it.
But if Opal Jr. is up, I guess you’re stuck now, right? Up and at em!
I’ve been up since 10am Friday.
I wanted to go to bed earlier but my boyfriend had to be up no later than 3:30 and we both know he isn’t able to get up that early without a cup of coffee in hand. So, I stayed up to bring him a cup of coffee.
After that, I could have gone to bed but by then it was 4am and I have to be up at 9 to get ready for tutor training and by that point, I didn’t know if I would be able to get myself up without a cup of coffee in hand.
So, I decided to stay up and get some homework done since I wont have time later today.
Now it’s 7:21 and my Stats homework is done, I’m eating rice krispies and watching The Thing in an attempt to not fall asleep before I actually have to be awake. No matter how many times I watch this movie, I want to let Blair out of captivity. He sounds so sad and pathetic begging to be let out. I’m such a softie.
Nah, he’s 15. He doesn’t need me to stay up for any reason.
Ok I’m gonna go lie in bed and read my book and see if anything happens. Wish me luck.
Good luck! May I suggest maybe something boring, like maybe something you have to read for work or school? It seems reading the responsibility crap makes me really sleepy.
Well, I’m usually up all night, as I sleep during the day for various reasons–one of which being I don’t have my own bed.
As for sleep help: i find daydreaming helps. If you get really caught up in a daydream, you’re pretty close to sleep.
