I'm still awake. And I'm lonely :(

Really? I’m almost sure I would have noticed.

Just luck of the draw that I wasn’t here for the thread. I’ve had insomnia lately, too. Been getting better in the last few days, managed to get to sleep last night at about 2:00.

Sweet dreams.

This would make a GREAT :dubious: kinda signature.

Opal, when you went to the sleep doctor, did they have you try sleep restriction? It’s been working well for me. I mean, I’m tired and all because it’s not enough hours of sleep, but when I lay my head down, I’m out within five or ten minutes.

Shhhhh, she’s sleeping…

I hope!

This can cause insomnia. Alcohol definitely effects sleep patterns, and in a negative way.
Fellow insomniac here, bigtime. My suggestion: if sleeplessness is an issue in anyone’s life that they consider getting rid of the booze. All of it.

Didn’t come in here to harp, condescend, or lecture about drinking - to OP or anyone else. Only wanted to lend my suggestion: it’s a fact that alcohol makes insomnia worse. Whether it’s worth teetotalling to try and beat, one can only determine on their own.

This insomnia, while better at times and worse at others, is something that I’ve had my whole life. I don’t drink very much and haven’t really noticed any correlation between drinking and insomnia for me though I’ve also heard that it can be bad. On the other hand if I get DRUNK I can fall asleep fairly easily, so go figure

Thanks to everyone who came in and made me feel better this morning  It helped. I was feeling really isolated and lonely.

Do you usually wind up sleeping better in the mornings? IF you do, you might have a sleep cycle disorder. I don’t know if mine was caused by my Klnonpin withdrawal or what, but I’ve had to deal with that.

“better at times and worse at times”
Your answer to sleep is in those words. You need to find the common denominators to good sleep and bad sleep. Room temperature, air circulation, food (too much, not enough, what kind), alcohol (you seem to know how this affects you), exercise, light, sound, work stress, family stress, solar wind (my sister’s answer to any screwy happenings-“It must be the solar winds messing things up”)

for me:
feet cold= bad sleep (my ex called me “Popsicle toes”) I sleep with socks on.
body: too hot= nightmares too cold=bad sleep right now, best temperature result with flannel sheet and a blanket over the bottom half of the bed

read about these “weighted blankets” http://www.weightedblanket.net/ I am thinking about ordering one of these, or entering the drawing. There was a thread about these.

Caffiene=NONE not even early in the day. And I’m noticing that too much chocolate (I can’t believe that is even possible :frowning: ) can make a difference.

light= I was waking up every night at 3 am. I thought it was because I needed to go to the bathroom. I bought some black-out curtains for my bedroom and I don’t wake up at 3 am any more. (I think it might have been the car-lights from the newspaper delivery, or some such regular drive-by)

sound= I have a box fan that I turn on every night (in the summer time pointed towards the bed and in the winter pointed away from the bed) helps to mask some of the house noises. or a white noise generator (there has been a thread about these.

You might benefit from some bio-feedback training, to learn how to “turn your brain off”, or writing in a journal to “get the thoughts out of your head”

bottom line: you have to look at your life from many different angles to figure out what helps and what doesn’t. Be your own detective, make a spreadsheet.

And the Dope helps when nothing else does!

The dope helps me sleep too.

I’m still awake from yesterday :frowning:

I was awake at 4:30 this morning and I’ve been awake ever since. I’ve been lonely my entire life. I want a hug. I want a puppy.
