I'm stuck in Portal (first one) in test 15
OK, thank you. I wasn’t aware of that - I really knew nothing about the game other than the cute little robots on the commercials (which isn’t really all that representative, is it?)

Obviously the timing of when I stopped playing the time before factored into my impression of that bit. There was so little left to do before the end of the game, that it was a massive let-down.
Where? I’ll have to look around for that… I am doing the bonus maps Advanced rooms, but I didn’t see anything by that name. Is that Chapter 2? That just seems to be the same levels as in Chapter 1, but starting in room 4. I’ll look around next time I load up the game - I maybe wasn’t paying too much attention anymore due to the let-down and alcohol…:smack::stuck_out_tongue:

For those following along with my impressions, I probably won’t play more for a few days, though, as I have friends coming over today, and it’s going to be hockey and hanging out until Super Bowl for the rest of the weekend.

The “Extended Relaxation Chamber” was supposed to be a joke. GlaDOS mentions it in the game.

Basically, “loosen up”.

Ah…well…I was pretty loose…if loose = drunk…which made everything much more confusing.

I might actually bake a cake later today.

To clarify a little, Portal was obviously intended and designed to be “a game” but it was part of the Orange Box bundle, not a stand-alone product. Compared to the Half-Life and Team Fortress franchises in the Orange Box, Portal was more of a fun value-added thing than a stand-alone product. From Wiki:

Needless to say, it “went over well” with players

We got through the advanced levels.

We can’t play Portal 2, because it won’t load… the moment we click on “play” it crashes. Googling has, so far, revealed no fixes to this particular problem, despite many people having posted about it since it came out. Good job, Valve, for providing a broken product.

Those cute robots are used for co-op play. I’ve never done that because I know I suck.

Don’t forget garnishes such as fish shaped crackers, fish shaped candies, fish shaped solid waste, fish shaped dirt, fish shaped ethyl benzene…

You should try it - even co-op is very puzzle oriented instead of twitch oriented. I was able to finish it with my daughters, who are utterly terrible at any sort of high pressure situations in games. And there’s plenty of extra GLaDOS humor with the robots.

I was playing Civ III, and doing nicely. Won a couple of games. Now Civ III will load, and then when it gets to the control panel, the screen goes blank. I still have music, though.

So I went to Civ IV.

I’m STILL stuck on Level 15, trying to get over that second wall. I’ve broken down and looked at the video, but apparently this bit is Challenging.

I find the key to the type of flinging required in that spot is to make sure my exit portal (the one up high) is orange. Then it’s just aim and shoot at the floor on my way down.

The key to me - especially for this one - is to fire off the portal at the last possible moment to make sure that I go through it cleanly. The second key is to not get too twitchy; you generally have more time than you think you have to aim. I remember this level, after looking at the video. It was probably the toughest bit for me from a pure reflexes standpoint.

I FINALLY got over that second wall. I did go out the orange portal, and fired at the last second. After making it over the wall, I saved the game and quit. I’m going to enjoy the glow of accomplishment for a few hours, and then go back to it. MAN, that was a pain in the butt to do.
