The terrific game 'Portal' is now free, for both PC and MAC, until May 24th

I’m not one to like puzzle games in general, but ‘Portal’ is a lot of fun. And at times very funny.

Moved Cafe Society --> The Game Room.

Cool… I love that game. Problem is the site won’t let me create an account–it just keeps making me re-enter the verification letters over and over. I can’t be messing them up EVERY time

If I didn’t already own the game, I’d get it like a million times over. It’s the most satisfying game I’ve played in many years. There’s one moment in the game that succeeds in making the player feel exactly the same sensation as the player, in a way unlike any other game. It’s not melodramatic or anything, but it’s awesome.

This is a triumph!

I’m making a note here, ‘huge success’.

It’s hard to overstate my sat-is-fac-tion…

It’s a bad capcha. I had to re-enter many times, but eventually it accepted one. The capcha algorithm is case sensitive keeps inserting straight lines that look like 1s or Is or transforms letters and numbers into other letters and numbers.

I’m downloading now, but it’s going really slowly… Only 100 KB/s. I might actually have to wait until <shudder> tomorrow to play it!

Oh, and it never made me type a capcha at all.

Since it’s on Steam, does that mean we have to finish it before May 24? I still have this problem where games with lots of camera movements make me sick. It’s getting better, but I still cannot play 3D games without motion sickness.

I signed up, and I ***think ***I’m downloading it now. Where do I go to check the download status??

There should be a download tab on Steam. Mine didn’t look like it was downloading at all, but Portal was in my games tab. Tried to play it, then it updated for ages, then it worked. A bit odd, but it worked.

don’t see a download tab, but I tried to launch it, and it says it will be ready to launch in about an hour, so I’ll ssume it’s downloading - thanks!

Click library, then below it click downloads.

blerg.

Stupid me, I was palying around on the Steam site, whilst the actual program/game was downloading in another window.

:rolleyes::smack:

aperture science, we do what we must, because we can
for the good of all of us

except the ones who are dead.

But there’s no sense crying over every mistake,
You just keep on trying 'til you run out of cake.

And the science gets done.
And you make a neat gun.
For the people who are still alive.

While Portal worked fine yesterday, Steam just downloaded a mammoth update for it. It’s got me back into HL2 though.

“Still Alive” is the ONLY song I will do vocals on in Rock Band II. In fact it’s pretty much the only song other people have ever heard me sing. (I have a sort of phobia.)

This is my question, too. I assume free means free, which means you own it and will have it forever(so to speak). Right?
