I’m liking it so far. The browser’s pretty intuitive, even though this is my first time using Opera.
How slow is it? I’ve been quasi-interested in the DS Opera browser, but early reports say it’s slower than a Goomba on quaaludes.
British version or Japanese? I can’t wait for it to come out in the US.
Dear Sister? Designated Shithole? Deviated Septum? Depreciated System? Diagonal Space?
I’ve read the front page for a couple of years with my Sharp GX-30, but it’s not able to render the boards, and now the poor old thing is falling to bits sob. What’s a DS seeing as I’m in the market for a new phone?
I give you THE DS
Ahhh. Well I might just go for one of the new Samsungs then.
I’m back on my PC now (got back from uni).
I wonder why Mario never thought of that trick?
It’s certainly slower than my PC on broadband. I’d say it’s between that and dial-up.
British. Is it not out there yet, then? Strange, you usually get consoles/games before or the same time as us.
It sees it all. It may be slow, but it renders the boards pretty perfectly; it can show pictures fine, it’s just video that it won’t play.
With the two screens, one shows the entire width of the webpage which you can scroll down, and the other shows a highlighted area of the upper screen so you can actually read what’s on it. The touch-screen makes it very easy to fill in details; I logged myself in and posted this with no problems.
On preview; yeah, you might not want a games console, Struan.
Oh. One of them ‘gaming console’ things.
Portable game thingy with a touchpad. Bout the size of an eyeglass case, Ahunter. The browser is a nice addition. I already use mine at work as a WiFi access point scanner. This means my copy of Tony Hawk is a business necessity. I can dig it.
Okay. So. When is it getting released in the US, or should I just hop onto eBay and buy a greymarket import?
Related, but OT: Whatever happened to the organizer that was planned for the DS? Damn thing’s been vaporware for going on two years now.
DS is regionless. The euro one should work fine.

November 19th for US. I dunno why the delay.
November 19th is release date for the Wii… They haven’t set a release date for the browser yet.
Why? I have no idea. Doesn’t seem like anyone else does either.
So how does a DS connect to the Internet? Is it a subscription service via the cell network, or some other system?
802.11g wireless. Not B, G only.
Not quite. DS only supports B, but most G networks are backwards compatible as well.
The only thing to keep in mind is that the DS can only connected to a hotspot that is free (no charge to use), and doesn’t require the user to go through a “Terms and agreement” screen.
Hm. So that means that the MagicLan I couldn’t detect with it was G only, and not B? Weird.
Anyhow, if you have a laptop and the DS Wifi adapter, you can actually get your DS on at restricted areas, through rebroadcasting.
I think McDonalds lets you surf for free, too.
? I don’t see that this is related to arts/entertainment, except in the broadest sense of entertainment. Hence, moved from Cafe Society to MPSIMS.
Yes, but did you do it from your DS?
I’d really like to see one of these, and I can’t understand for the life of my why Nintendo wouldn’t release one here. They’ve got Stylebook software in Japan, which has calendar and address book functions. (It’s also got Sanrio characters, but that probably wouldn’t be a priority here…) If my Japanese were stronger, I’d buy that software for my DS instead of replacing my malfunctioning Palm.
