I'm taking the A+ Essentials cert. tomorrow.

Just been seeing this on job postings and decided that it might be helpful to have some kind of certification of my skills. I just took a practice test and I noticed a few odd questions… From memory ther were a few “strange” ones. I got 86 percent so I am pretty sure I can pass.

Lots of laser printer questions. I know very little about this, but anyway, it seems reasonable to include them as they are important a lot of times.

A strange question. If a guy installs a new FDD and the light is constantly on, what is the problem? Well I knew it was because the ribbon was installed incorrectly because it’s happened to me before. Kind of funny.

Stupid question…Asking the difference between various antiquated display modes to determine which one provides the highest picture quality…I chose XGA, the other ones I didn’t recognize, but they weren’t VGA, SVGA, or anything else…When would you really need to know this?

Strange question…
What is the name of the connector that you connect to IDE drives…

Me? “…” no idea what it’s called. They’ve been standard for so long that I never knew that there was another type.

Just felt like I’d add a few things here about this stuff…

I think the answer they want is ATA.

Good luck.

Oh, sorry, I meant the power connector. I didn’t know it had a name.

Molex, but I don’t know anyone who has ever used it by name.

Were the video modes EGA and CGA by chance?

Here it is…

Anyway I passed…I did two tests in an hour and forty-five minutes.

VGA - 640x480
XGA - 1024x768
UXGA - 1600x1200
WUXGA - 1920x1200 (Wide version of UXGA)

ETA: Wikipedia knows all…

OHH! Congratulations!

I read your last post as “I passed the practice exams” but I see the time now.
Good for you! I hope this leads to a better job for ya someday!
