I'm the star of a music video, playing a seductive serial killer....

So a year and a half or so ago, a friend of mine asked if I’d be interested in being in his band’s video. He said they had a great concept and thought I’d be perfect for the role. I was really flattered and was interested right away, even before I knew what the story was. And when I found out that they wanted me to be a pin up style sexy lady who kills each of the band members, I was thrilled to pieces!

The day we did the video shoot I did take after take for about 10 hours. It was shot by one guy with one camera, so everything we did had to be done over and over. But the guys were all great, and one is a comedic smart ass, so it was a very fun and entertaining day of activity. Two other girls are in the video as well, the concept being that we’re all mistreated by our boyfriends and I’m going to exact revenge on them in my own sadistic way… I did my own hair and makeup, and came up with all of my own costumes. And the video was a lot of improv…

We waited for months, and I was nervous as hell, worried that I might look stupid or the video would be bad. But it turned out pretty damn great, and I’m proud of the finished product.

The band is called State, and the song is Hotel Canvas. The video was directed by Jacob Bilinski of Cinephreak Productions. I have permission to share this, so no worries there. And without further ado…here it is…

I hope you all enjoy it!

Very nice! You should be proud!

Congrats. Not quite sure about the production values or the style, but it’s quite entertaining.

As an aside, you are quite absurdly hot. And yet you’re a Doper. Does not compute (myself excepted, of course). Love your tats.

I initially read that as something else.

Sorry, that was a typo.

Anybody else here a pretty heavy dose of Queens of the Stone Age in that song?

Ouch! I had to stop after the lopper scene. Very cool, though.

Holy crap, that was top-notch! Too many fast cuts though.

I am going to be honest. The video itself was cringe-worthy and the production values were horrid. But Indygrrl is super hot.

Very sexy and fun, Indygrrl. You’re gorgeous!

Oh yeah. A LOT of Queens of the Stone Age.

In a lot of cases cuts aren’ fast enough IMO, but they do need to slow down (way down) in some sections. A long clip is about 10/11 seconds, a short clip is 15/30 frames (average video is 30 fps, the human brain can’t tell past that point). So my opinion (my personal opinion, reflecting my taste and video editing expertise), is that things like when the mailman knocked on the door, that needed to be slowed down (I realize they didn’t have a slowmo camera, but it would have been better if they did, even setting the camera they did have to 60 fps and slowing down to 30 would be awesome). The scenes with blood and gore didn’t need to be in, just the suggestion needed to be there, this is definitely reflecting my taste of course, I don’t care too much for overly intense violence, I didn’t watch much past the first stabbing mostly out of fear of what would happen next. I know waaaaay too much about pain and suffering, and I don’t appreciate it when it’s portrayed in an unrespectful manner (i.e. movies and videos that glorify or show too much), again, my taste.

As far as the video itself: The quality was good, the lighting was OK, and the camera work was decent (I realize the OP had no control over any of this, I’m just stating my professional views here :)). If I was going to give a grade on this I’d give it a B+ when taking into account there was only one camera (if there were more camera’s and that’s all they could do… a C at best). I do think the audio could have been equalized a little more though, the screaming at the beginning made me turn my speakers way down so no one thought there was a problem or something and come running . Also, the video footage itself could have done with color correction, specialized film effects (blurs and burns), and general post-processing.

Again, a professional critiquing an amature video where the OP has no effect on it whatsoever (geeze, I’m starting to sound like an a** to myself now :smack:). Who am I to talk though, I’ve never had the chance to even do something cool like this at all…I have to make boring video look good instead of being givin’ something that looks good and get the chance to make it look awesome!

Yes, cringe-worthy to say the least, this is why I don’t let my guard down around women who are over obvious about coming on to you…ouch :D. Indygrrrl, hot, yes, on fire, smoking, keep doing crazy stuff like this, there could be a super future in it for you!
(another post by the Train where he’s obviously said too much, gone too far, and gave opinion where no one asked for it.)

Congratulations! Appearing in a video must be fun. I’ll wait until I’m home to watch it. Looking forward to seeing one of the Dopers on film! Next stop Hollywood.

And since you don’t seem to mind us seeing what you look like, would you care to send in a photo for the picture gallery?

Moved MPSIMS --> Cafe Society.

Clothing optional.

Why did the police officer in the beginning have to die? What was wrong with him? And why was the woman in the beginning beating up on him?

I think he was a UPS-ish delivery driver ala Kevin James on King of Queens.

Yeah, it’s definitely intentionally cheesy and over-the-top, darkly humorous violence. The guys in the band came up with the ridiculous storyline. It’s supposed to be about three women who are abused by their boyfriends and elect me to carry out revenge.
.
The beginning with the chick in the car screaming was just stupid. He was supposed to be abusive towards her, yet it ended up with her going psycho on him. In reality, that girl is actually crazy, so this wasn’t really a stretch for her, lol. So that’s why it seemed like he got stabbed for nothing. I also hate the subtitles in the first scene I’m in, completely unnecessary.
.
Oh, and I actually got them to change several silly things they wanted to do while shooting, and tried to tell them that if I shot a guy in the forehead at close range, the blood wouldn’t splatter in my face, it would go out the back of his head. But they insisted on doing that their way, lol.
Production values and other silliness aside, this was one of the funnest days of my life. It was all such a blast, and they were so cool to me, and I was thrilled to star in a mini b movie.
.
I’m glad you guys think it’s entertaining, and I appreciate the compliments. Thanks for watching it!

Giggity to ya, Indygrrl! You got a bangin’ body.

It looks fun indeed. The music is not really my style, and I don’t go in for gratuitous violence, and the story is too ridiculous to hold my interest, and… oh yeah, you are totally hot. Seconds on the nice tat.
