Dad will be 85 this year and he’s led a rather interesting life. I already have quite a bit about his and his siblings’ childhood in the orphanage and he’s mentioned a few things about his WWII experiences. Yeah, his age doesn’t quite fit; he lied about that when he enlisted.
I recently started thinking about seeing if he’d be willing to share more of his adventures, which I’d edit and compile with the rest of what I have.
Lute, you didn’t ask for opinions, but I hope you’ll forgive a couple from me anyway.
First, I think that is an absolutely grand idea and you should for dang sure do it.
Second, your work may not be of enough interest to a publisher to sell it, but here is one of the few cases where a subsidy publisher might actually be a good idea. If it isn’t too expensive, and there are enough members in his family, it would make a grand present to them.
Some suggestions I’ve gotten from here include such ideas as maybe including maps where appropriate, copies of military records, etc. I’d also add the possibility of digitizing any old photos he has of that time and maybe including them into the manuscript.
Anyway, best of luck in that endeavor. It’s a piece of history from a rapidly-disappearing part of our population.
Yes, yes, comments are most welcome.
