I'm totally in love with Barack Obama. He makes me weepy with happiness.

Thank you! That would be an honor. I loved putting it together. It was my first try at a You Tube video and I had fun.

Thanks! Thank you too for the videos (and the other links on this page folks). I’ll definitely watch them when I get a chance.

Here’s a nice clip I saw on Michelle’s MySpace blog. It’s Barack’s sister Maya talking about their mother.

OK, like, really this isn’t fair because this pic is several years old, but I just found it tonight when going through a huge trunk of stuff, and since it’s me singing, I humbly submit it as competition for ObamaDoperGirl 2008!

um…I’m not the one in the hat

When I get back to work on Monday, I’ll post a pic of O rockin’ some sunglasses on CNN.com a couple weeks ago. I did a screen capture of it cos it was so cool.

I suppose I’ll fuel the fire a bit…

He looks a whole lot like my first serious boyfriend, so he pushes all my crush buttons! He’s just…dreamy. Michelle’s a lucky lady! (And he’s a lucky guy - she’s quite the hottie herself.)

He’s also, based on the photos on the baby holding site, a baby-head-sniffer. I think I’m in love!
I guess this is how the women got all swoony over Kennedy, huh? He doesn’t do it for me, personally.

I’m a little hurt that you would even entertain the possibility that I’d make a decision this crucial based on anything other than policy. I’ve outlined my policy positions enough elsewhere on this board, as have other posters here.

We just want to play.

This has been a tense, bitter race. I think a little levity and celebration of our chosen candidate is perfectly appropriate for a message board, and I love the tone here.

I guess Obama is truly a good looking guy, but I don’t think we’re really talking about his looks. We’re talking about being politically excited and hopeful–which brings up the same sort of twittery stomach butterflies you would expect from a crush. A crush is about possibility. Possibility is sexy.

I’m not sure what you mean by ‘‘backlash’’ when he doesn’t live up to people’s expectations. The greatest ‘‘backlash’’ I can imagine if he turns out to be a mediocre president is disappointment. He’s worth being excited about–even worth the risk of disappointment. I’m not so delicate I can’t handle that.

If by ‘‘backlash’’ you are talking about worldwide calamity because we naive fools were so blinded by Obama’s pretty smile, then no, that’s not going to happen. I am not a Democrat, but Democrats have had it right from the beginning. They called bullshit in 2000, they called it in 2001, and they have continued to call it as our country has sunk deeper into the mire courtesy of one George W. The calling has fallen on deaf ears until now. Obama is better than most Democrats-- he doesn’t just have his policy right, he’s got his heart right. He really cares. But even if he is fooling us all, we will have far more effective policy in the White House than McCain could ever hope to offer.

I also would like to say–you underestimate those Bush supporters. I don’t think anyone seriously bases their voting decision on a person’s appearance. It’s more likely that they are so enamored with the policy that their preferred candidate appears more attractive to them.

You’re hurt?
I wasn’t even addressing my remarks to you, personally. I have no idea what your party positions are–I don’t keep track. I posted my observations. I didn’t intend to rain on anyone’s parade, which was why I put in YMMV.

Delicate? I think we see different things when we see Obama. I see a capable, assertive leader. I also see a policy wonk and a man driven by his principles. We need those things desperately. I don’t see Obama the celebrity or Obama the Dream Date. Sexy doesn’t enter into for me. YMMV (and obviously does).

Disenchantment is a bitter pill to swallow. ALL Presidents go through a honeymoon period; Obama will. And if things do not go the Yellow Brick Road way a lot of Obama supporters think they will–there will be backlash. I am concerned about the unrealistic expectations placed on him. Not on his party–people are voting for him. I sincerely hope he can meet them all, but governing is nothing but compromising; there is bound to be disappointment.

Never underestimate the reasons for choosing a candidate from either side.I know people who do vote based on appearance alone (a friend of my mother’s did not vote for Kennedy back in the day–she deplored his taste in neckties). People are inexplicable.

Sorry if I’m overly opinionated and defensive today. It’s been a rough week. I see the same things you do in Obama. I just express my enthusiasm differently, I guess.

"We’re gonna spread happiness
We’re gonna spread freedom
Obama’s gonna change it
Obama’s gonna lead 'em

We’re gonna change it
And rearrange it
We’re gonna change the world.

The morning will come when the world is mine.
Tomorrow belongs to me!."

The Japanese love Obama, too.

Obama is Beautiful World

Yeah, me too. I guess this is the lefty equivalent to the retarded “I wanna have a drink with Bush” crap.

Well… you have my vote…

I really didn’t intend to thread shit or throw cold water on anyone. Just know that the press is not his friend and as soon as there is the possibility of a hint of so much as a drop of blood in the water–the feeding frenzy will start. So, for my part, I’d rather not see people go all googly-eyed over him, because the higher he’s elevated, the farther the fall.

But I’m old and crotchety and tend to worry stuff to death. It IS nice to see a vibrant, young person as our leader. I truly hope he represents a new era in this country. And his suits do hang nicely on him…

Latest Obama Rocks is his Message to the FIrst Americans on YouTube. A presidential candidate paying attention to Native Americans? Speaking to them and of them respectfully? Promising to honor century-old treaties?

I need to have sex with him RIGHT NOW…

Favortie contributions so far:
Barack in the cowboy hat…Rowr!
Obama is Beautiful World…LOVE that. The Japanese are SO weird.

Thank you for sharing that link. I watched that video and really enjoyed it.

I’m in love with him, too. Well, in the political and philosophical and human senses of the phrase, but not the romantic. Not that there’s anything wrong with him. I just don’t find males attractive. But, wow! I’d heard of this amazing young Chicago politician and was curious, then heard him during the 04 convention and wanted him for my president, and only hours later did I realize I knew nothing of his policy positions or accomplishments, nothing at all! But as time went by I learned more of the substance behind him, and read Dreams, and am now partway through Audacity, and have grabbed every chance to hear him speak.

Heros are so rare these days.

I just want to follow him…

Popping into the thread to say this is the first time I’ve regretted not being American - if only because I really would like to cast a vote for Senator Obama in this election. I’m not crushing on him, but it sure is nice to look at America again and be inspired. I had a bit of that with Clinton, and I’m hoping an Obama presidency will inspire the same feeling worldwide. The US can use this elevation - the idea of an inspired, competent, articulate, elite leader running the most important nation in the world is reassuring indeed. I will say, however, that until Palin hit the ticket, I wasn’t scared of a McCain presidency either - not to GD this thread, but I hope/ think that McCain is pandering to the extreme right of the party right now and would have been a more moderate leader. Pre-Palin, I would have been disappointed if McCain won, but not worried. Now - I’m worried.

VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE! I am so fearful that people will think Obama’s lead is so certain they won’t bother to hit the polls.

OK- said I’d come back with a superfly pic of O in sunglasses. I believe this was on CNN on one of the debate days. He was carrying his debate clothes in the bag slung over his shoulder. Coolness!

There is no question that Obama will be far and away the coolest president this country has ever seen.
