IMDb, Wendee Lee, and Soul Calibur II

So I was playing the videogame Soul Calibur II the other day and suddenly thought, “Hey! That sounds like Wendee Lee’s voice!” Wendee Lee is a very prolific voice actress, and quite talented in my opinion. I decided to look up my suspicions on the IMDb, and I was right. She did in fact lend her voice to one of the characters. But then I noticed she was credited for a completely different character than I thought. Instead of being the deep-voiced woman who I thought sounded exactly like her, she’s credited with a young girl with a very high-pitched voice.

Is the IMDb ever wrong? The voice actors aren’t listed in the credits in the game’s manual, and I can’t find any credits in the game at all. The credited character sounds nothing like Wendee. At least nothing like what I’ve heard. You can click her name on that page to see what else she’s done; if you watch much anime, chances are you’ve heard her.

I may be asking for a small or nonexistant subset of Dopers here, but if anyone is familiar with Wendee Lee and Soul Calibur II, what’s your opinion? Or am I the only one who’s noticed and is puzzled by this?

Haven’t played much SCII, and I haven’t a clue who Wendee Lee is but last I knew IMDB was submission based, and it’s not unusual for it to be wrong.

I’ve always felt she was quite talented - thought she was perfect as Faye in Cowboy Bebop.

To be honest i did think IMDB was right with regards to who they said she voiced, but i have a sneaky suspicion she may have voiced more than one character - who was it you thought she voiced?

IMDB is very often wrong. They confused Joe Millionaire host Paul Hogan with Crocodile Dundee star Paul Hogan, and they confused Paris Hilton’s mother, former child actress Kathy Richards, with a much older soft-core porn star who was once credited as Kathie Hilton in the 70s. 1971, to be exact, when Paris’s mother was about twelve.

I just checked, and both mistakes have since been corrected, but the site is far from infallible.

garius I could’ve sworn she voiced Taki. I do admit that some of Xianghua’s quips sound like they may have been voiced by Wendee Lee, what with the inflection and how they’re said, but it’s just the sound of the voice that throws me off. Taki, to me, sounds much more like what I’ve heard from Wendee, overall.

On the gamecube version of SCII if you go to the characters profile and select the option that lets you hear all the voice clips for the character press the left shoulder button (strangely enough called “L”) and a box appears with the voice actors name.

Hope this helps.

I can’t check who voiced who at the moment as I am at work and my gamecube is sadly 30 miles at home. :frowning:

Slight hijack, but I just had to say that I was very dissapointed with this game. For some reason, maybe because I don’t have tons of free time, I could not get into SCII like I could Tekken 3/TTT.

I didn’t know you could see the voice actors like that, thanks! I just checked, and it seems the IMDb is indeed right. Unless the info in the game itself is wrong, but I’m going to shy away from taking taking this to full-blown conspiracy proportions. Guess it just goes to show that Wendee Lee is much more versatile than I expected. That, and I could just be going deaf as well.

Thanks for the help, BIH Boy!

BabaBooey, as for your hijack, I’ve never played any of the Tekken games. I do enjoy this game though, just as much as its predecessor on the Dreamcast. I only have two real complaints with it: 1) The amount of time you have to spend trying to find/buy everything in the game is just plain ridiculous, and 2) I hate how Lizardman is so restricted in the game (he can only be used in Practice and multiplayer modes…) He was my favorite character. But at least I still get Voldo and Cervantes to thrash my brother with.
