Immigration Question.

My son (Canadian) is engaged to an American. I was reading this thread, and it occurred to me that we haven’t even considered all the paperwork involved in getting Josie legally into Canada. There is no date set yet, Josie is a singer on board a cruise ship, and is hoping to move here to Canada with Jas in the fall.

What paperwork do we need to get started? Shayna, put up a website in this post for becoming an American citizen. Does anyone know of a similar site for Canadians? (Excellent site btw Shayna!)

I’m not expecting you guys to do the work for us, but I don’t want to get started in the wrong direction. I will be gone for most of the day, but will be back tonight.

Thanks for your replies in advance

This site might help. If your son’s fiancée wants to live in Canada permanently, she will have to obtain the status of permanent resident, which is easier if she is sponsored by a Canadian citizen link. After living in Canada for several years as a permanent resident, she may apply for naturalization.

And there also the website of the Citizenship and Immigration authority with lots of useful information.

Thanks Schnitte for the links.

FarmerChick, I just sent you a pm about this. Let me know if it’s helpful.
