IMPORTANT! If your user name has a space in it or a non-alphanumeric character READ THIS

Yes. Passwords will NOT be ported over to Discourse.

It doesn’t matter if you meet the requirements or not. Whatever your password, it will not be automatically ported over. EVERYONE has to change their password.

Yours ports across as Bosda_Di_Chi_of_Tricor

I am tempted to change my username to Under_Score so that people think UnderUnderScoreScore every time they see it, but I’ll stick with Left__Hand_of_____Dorkness__________.

So my name’s too long?

Nope. Yours comes across as Happy_Lendervedder

I hope I may remain as Qadgop the Mercotan. I’ve sent my request to Tubadiva.

Ok, i’m J-P L.

I guess i become J-P_L. Correct?

Thanks

Yep.

J-P_L

Do the password requirements affect the transitioning process? In other words if our current passwords don’t meet those requirements, umm, what happens to our account during the transition?

Guess I should have stayed TheMysteryWriter. Oh well. I suppose Anxious_Squirrel just makes me look even more anxious, and that can only be a good thing.

It doesn’t matter what your current password is. EVERYONE will need to change their password once we transition over to the new site. The passwords are NOT porting over, no matter what. Not for anyone.

This is why we keep telling everyone to make sure their e-mail in their user control panel is up to date, because that’s where the password reset e-mail is going to go.

Is it just me? Or aren’t letters just as unique as (#$%&etc)? I find those such an aggravation to put in (and remember). Please don’t give me crap about being a computer Luddite-I get that enough from my kids. At least I knew enough to capitalize Luddite.

To people actually read underscores when they read names? I just treat them like spaces. I read Under_Score as “under score” in my head.

(And, yes, I subvocalize. I know not everyone does.)

See, that’s what you guys get for your frilly, ostentatious user names.

Who’s the smarty pants now?

Well, this doesn’t bode well for yours truly.

I requested a full on name change since I post so irregularly and nobody knows me anyhow =D Those underscores are a PITA to type out when you want to tag or find a poster.

The minimum and maximum username length, password length, unique character requirements, and stuff like that are all parameters an administrator can edit in the Discourse site settings. Unicode names work IF you enable them correctly; they are disabled by default. Don’t remember whether enabling spaces is easy or a tricky problem. (Worst case, the names can be fixed later? The actual user is just an id number in a database.)

Hi. If you don’t mind, I would like to change my username.

Thanks for listing these. Since my username has 16 characters, I’ve sent you a pm.

Aesthetically speaking, I’d rather be JackBatty than Jack_Batty. I’ll stand by for further instructions.
