I know nothing about the Apple world, and she is not particularly Mac savvy, despite owning one. I want to give her a bunch of mp3’s, and somehow they end up on her iPhone.
In theory, I can give her the files on a USB stick. When she plugs it into the Mac, it should auto import into iTunes. The iPhone gets synchronized somehow (she claims the sync is setup and working).
Questions:
Is mp3 a good format, or do they need to converted to some other format, either before or after the import.
The files are in folders (e.g. jazz, country, mix1, mix2, etc). I want to have these end up as playlists. How do you do that?
She drags them into her iTunes library or uses the menu to add them. She makes playlists with them in it once they’re in the library. She syncs her whole library, or selects only the playlist, and performs a sync with her phone. Done. This is illegal in the US since you’re copying music without owners’ permissions, but not sure about Alberta.
MP3 is a fine format. There are better out there, but if you’re asking, you can’t tell the difference anyway (no offense – most people, me included, cannot).
Maybe just buy her a gift Spotify subscription ($1 for 3 months of unlimited music, $10/mo after that) and share your playlist with her.
Dropping those folders into the iTunes sidebar on the left of the iTunes screen will automatically create those playlists. Make sure she is using the latest version of iTunes.
