Importing My Places to new Google Earth installation

I searched for the answer and got a few hits but they didn’t work.

I’m sure it can be done…can anybody help?

What file should I look for on the old computer and where should I copy it to on my new one running Windows XP??

If you can still start Google Earth on the old computer, start Google Earth and then right click on “my places” and do “save place as” and it’ll make a file called “My Places.kmz” which you can then open on a different computer.

There might be a more elegant way to do it, but that’s how I’ve done it in the past.

So far; so good.

Now where do I put it???

Thanks !!!

You just need to get that file you made onto your new computer and open it in Google Earth (.kmz files should be associated with Google Earth so you can just open it right out of your e-mail or double-click on the file on your jump drive, or else just save it somewhere you can find it and go to file → open in GE). Once you do that, there will be “My Places.kmz” under “temporary places”. Open it up and the next thing down should be “My Places” (without .kmz). Right click on it and do “save to My Places” and you should be good!

Bingo!

Thanks a ton !!!
