Somewhat off-topic, but I always wondered how in the Hell so many people here in Nevada voted for that fucking insane amendment. A state built on the concept of quick marriage and quicker divorce, protecting the sanctity of marriage? Right. It’s bizarre to me how we can be the crazy state where gambling and prostitution is legal, where people come for wild hedonistic weekends full of drugs and booze and sex and money, and then we turn around and play the “religious moral traditional family” game. If we’re going to be a state that offers so much moral freedom, we should probably stick to that idea when it comes to civil rights.
That thing is such a fucking embarrassment.

I agree, but it’s hard to maintain a gracious face after reading more of the “Bush can do no wrong” echo chamber that comes from folks like Scylla, Sam Stone, The_Broken_Column, and the other usual suspects. You can only bang your head against a brick wall for so long before you start looking for the jackhammer…
I want to have cordial, respectful discussions with political opponents who make well-reasoned arguments for their views. But unfortunately, that seems to be an endangered species in the GOP these days.

If you wished to be cordial you wouldn’t belittle your opponents by calling them the “Bush can do no wrong” echo chamber," “The usual suspects,” or liken conversation to an opponent as “banging your head against a brick wall,” nor by saying that “well-reasoned debaters appear to be an endangered species.” That’s not cordial.
Those are all denigrations. You put four of them into a short post claiming you wish to be cordial. With all due respect, I think you’re underestimating the credulity of your readership.
If you wished to be cordial, then the last you time you addressed me you said that I “can have no claim as a lover of truth,” and that what I wrote was “drivel,” though I had not actually addressed you nor given you any cause or provocation.

If you wish to be cordial, simply be cordial. Nobody’s stopping you. If you’re not, you can hardly claim that you “want to be cordial.” Nobody’s pulling your strings, certainly not the GOP.
Unfair. I don’t agree with Scylla on much but he (she?) isn’t on T_B_C’s level. Scylla has good points sometimes and doesn’t call every dissenting poster uneducated or ignorant.
