Agent Foxtrot and I are safely in Istanbul, trying to navigate both the perplexing Turkish keyboards and the extreme Turkish traffic. We are having a fabulous time, touring Dolmabahçe palace and walking wild dolphins swimming in the Bosphorus. We are planning to head to Greece tomorrow. Will report back later!
Have fun!
Remember, it’s not Constantinople. (quite)
I think I may have related this story here before, but your mention of Turkish traffic reminds me of an incident my dad told me about when he was stationed in Ankara with the USAF.
There was a colonel who was transferred to Turkey and had his brand new American car shipped over. As soon as he saw the way that the Turks drive, he parked the car in his garage and left it there for the entire 2 years he was in Turkey.
When he rotated back to the states, he had his car shipped back, and he was waiting for it on the dock in New York City when it arrived. He got in his car and drove 2 blocks, when he got t-boned by a taxi running a red light.
He got out of his car, and the cab driver got out and started cursing him in Turkish.
Oh my… I miss Istanbul.
Say hi to all the kitties from me!
Turks are warm and friendly and amazingly good-looking. Even the pigeons are sleek and cheerful. Agent Foxtrot saw a man with no legs riding a motorcycle. We went to Sultanahmet today and visited the Blue Mosque, which is gorgeous. The aura around it is so grand but relaxing. My bottle of water proudly proclaims “Taste: Peculiar”. Not sure what to think of that.
I hope you took time for the Blue Mosque and the Grand Bazaar. What a great old city.
you stole my line! you evil line-stealer! :wally
Visited the Blue Mosque, seen the Aya Sofya from the outside but haven’t toured it or the Grand Bazaar yet. We’re in Athens right now, we’re planning on visiting the Acropolis tomorrow and maybe Aegina the day after that. The Greek lady at a diner gave us a free meal when she found out we didn’t have any Euros (there was no ATM and I had only lira). The Greeks are so anxious to be friendly and helpful!
