Are there any American citizens who are in line to a throne? For example, if King Umptysquat, his son and brother all die, Joe Fraqowitz of Brooklyn, New York, would have to leave his FedEx job to become potentate of Flexonia?
Who is the American closest to assuming a throne?
Anyone got rightful dibs on the British monarchy from over here if a tragedy happened to the royal family?
In the case of the British throne, probably not, although I suppose it is just possible that someone on the following list might have American citizenship.
I have heard but do not have a cite. Yaphet Kotto, the actor is a prince from an African nation. Back me up or knock me down if you have a cite. Please help. Thank you.
According to various bios on the net Mr. Kotto is an American citizen born in New York in either 1937 or 1944 depending on which site you’re reading.
According to his IMDb bio he is the son of a Cameroonian Crown Prince. This was the only mention of any links to royalty I could find. However, if true, that should put him somewhere in the line of accension to one of the thrones of Cameroon (which, if you’re curious, is traditionally divided into 5 different kingdoms).
Actually, one guy, Mayor of Palm Springs (I don’t know if he’s still Mayor now, this was in the early 90s), Paul R. Illyinsky, was the son of Grand Duke Dimitri of Russia, and most scholars say he would probably have the most uncomplicated right to succession. However, he has NO interest whatsoever.
(Grand Duke Dimitri was a younger cousin of Nicholas II and one of those who participated in the conspiracy to murder Rasputin).
As well, I’m sure many other exiled royals may live in the US.
There may be other American citizens higher on the list, but the only one I could find was number 156, Nicholas Leiningen. He was born in Philadelphia in 1991, which presumably makes him an American citizen. He is a descendant of that branch of the Romanov family that fled to Toronto after the Russian revolution.
A pupil at my school is on the list of succession for the British throne.
He’s a pleasant enough kid, but reading it through made me even more of a republican.
All these people whose sole claim is that some ancestor of theirs was related to a former monarch.
If he’s only a descendent of the Toronto Romanovs, he’s not related to the British Royal Family.
The Toronto refugee was Nicholas II’s sister, Grand Duchess Olga Alexandrovna, and her husband, Colonel Nikolai Kulikovski, a commoner. Olga was not related to Queen Victoria-her aunt WAS Queen Alexandra of England, but that was because Queen Alexandra’s sister was Olga’s mother Tsarina Maria Feodorovna-and they were descended from the Danish Royal Family.
You’re right. I saw that the kid’s father was born in Toronto and that his great-grandmother was a Grand Duchess of Russia, and I made a wrong assumption. The correct pedigree is:
Victoria
Alfred
Victoria Melita, who married Grand Duke Kirill Vladimirovich
Grand Duchess Marie
Karl
Karl Boris
Nicholas
