In love with another woman (hope my wife understands)

Here she is. I can’t tell if the on-line edition shows the attributes I love about her or not, but today’s Washington post Styel section reproduces some of her work.

If she can sustain this quality and not flame out quickly, I think this may be the next Gary Larsen-esque comics obsession for me. It’s been too long.

Better link.

It’s amusing, but Far Side it ain’t.

How can you say that – look at the variety!

Better than many of the strips in my local paper, that’s for sure.

That is skewed and hilarious. She is not science based like Larsen, but seems into history, philosophy, etc. in a similarly sideways-viewed sort of way.

I see your point and will keep an eye out for her. Thanks.

Wow. Several laugh-out-loud moments in those few pieces. Far, far funnier than the turgid dross that generally appears in SDMB links to cartoons.

I liked the “By Hume” and dead fluffy strips. I hope to see more of her.

That’s the thing. A few didn’t even make me crack a smile while others had me busting a gut. It’s good, but inconsistent.

And, similarly, there were days that “The Far Side,” got a “Meh!” from me.

I don’t know if it’s Far Side funny but it’s off to a good start. It’s certainly better than any comic in my local paper. I like it.

She might; my husband is in love with Nigella Lawson, and if she wanted to move in and start cooking for us, I’d have a hard time saying no.

I thought they were really good.
Just wondering if the mass market will even understand her though…you need to have somewhat of an education (gasp!) to understand a lot of her work.

I haven’t read any comic strips in a long time, but those are good. And I like the cubist touches. It gives them a very different look from that typical soft ‘funnies’ style.

I didn’t get ‘‘How I hated Hesiod.’’

I loved ‘‘Fancy Humour.’’ Her work is very self-aware, and I like that.

Wow, those were great. And I loved her responses to the judges.

I like her sense of humor.

What does she win for the contest? Will she be published?

In an ancient Greek text, Hesiod, described fireworks as if they were constellations. Cut to the comic - the kid is thinking the fireworks are only okay, and her mom says “oh, why can’t you be like that nice Hesiod down the street?” basically, and Hesiod’s quotes are offered as an example of how an imaginative mind might look at stars. Hence the girl hating Hesiod…

…now, as to why Hesiod kinda magically appears as neighbor as a kid, that’s th weirdness of comics…

She’s very good. Comparisons to Larson are unfair, but she’s outstanding. You don’t have to be Larson to be funny.

Her stuff is certainly much funnier than any of the myriad webcomics so often referred to here, and vastly better than most of the crap in the papers.

Not bad, but she’s no Dorothy Gambrell.

:smack:

Those typos happened when someone walked in my office and I was trying to magically switch to the presentation I am working on…I *hate *that.
