Here she is. I can’t tell if the on-line edition shows the attributes I love about her or not, but today’s Washington post Styel section reproduces some of her work.
If she can sustain this quality and not flame out quickly, I think this may be the next Gary Larsen-esque comics obsession for me. It’s been too long.
That is skewed and hilarious. She is not science based like Larsen, but seems into history, philosophy, etc. in a similarly sideways-viewed sort of way.
I see your point and will keep an eye out for her. Thanks.
I thought they were really good.
Just wondering if the mass market will even understand her though…you need to have somewhat of an education (gasp!) to understand a lot of her work.
I haven’t read any comic strips in a long time, but those are good. And I like the cubist touches. It gives them a very different look from that typical soft ‘funnies’ style.
In an ancient Greek text, Hesiod, described fireworks as if they were constellations. Cut to the comic - the kid is thinking the fireworks are only okay, and her mom says “oh, why can’t you be like that nice Hesiod down the street?” basically, and Hesiod’s quotes are offered as an example of how an imaginative mind might look at stars. Hence the girl hating Hesiod…
…now, as to why Hesiod kinda magically appears as neighbor as a kid, that’s th weirdness of comics…
