West Nile Virus was easy: a vaguely flu-like illness and all my crows died (the park across the street was Ground Zero in Illinois). This new one could be harder since I live around a bunch of old people, and God only knows what crap they are spreading, so what should I look for in my quest to make hypochondria an Olympic sport?

Frankly the only criteria I have seen that will make medical people consider the possibility is you returning recently from a trip to China or having been in close contact with someone who has recently returned–in addition to bad cold/flu symptoms.
