In re: Atheists v. Christians debate

The atheists won 2 falls out of 3 but they brought in a ringer who wrestled in college.

I’m curious, what form did you think that interest would take? You wrote “If the response to this statement warrants I will add details.” as the second sentence. I am genuinely curious what kind of people you were trying to target and how you thought your target audience would respond?

I never said it was accurate! You’re right not to trust farmers, I am one and I often make bad latin-based puns. And I have pigs.

First, I love the “Mr./Ms. Moderator” thing, pretending (?) not to know if Miller is male or female adds that certain something that one only finds in a dougie_monty post. Following that with continued complete incomprehension of the basic rules of the board is just pure comedy gold.

That is why dougie_monty is my favorite character on this message board, someday I’d love to meet the actor who portrays him so skilfully.

Pretending? No. Before I started this thread I had not visited The BBQ Pit for more than a year, so I knew nothing about the moderators.
There is no “actor” involved. What you see is the genuine article, in a manner of speaking.

Well, I have read comments posted here about the debate. A ringer, no less. I might have known.

I would pay to watch dougie and starving artist wrestle a few rounds.

I’m picturing a cross between this and this.

All money raised would go to charity.

I’m absolutely convinced it’s not a gag.

dougie honestly, literally, does not know what forum is what, what the operating rules are, or who the administrators and mod are.

I made a reference to disliking tubas a while back. I was being deliberately oblique, because that floats my boat. dm didn’t follow it, and I should have know he wouldn’t. Had I explained, it would have gone something like this:

andros: The long-term SDMB site administrator goes by the handle TubaDiva. She’s been around since the AOL days.

dougie-monty: Oh, I didn’t know that.

(Honestly, he might also add “What does SDMB stand for?”)
And the kicker is that I think he’s sincere. Maybe he’s got me fooled, but 16 years is a looooooong long con.

He learned it from the J-Dubs.

Is it true that when you took your SATs in school, you copied your classmate’s name onto your own test sheet?

You mean his name isn’t dougie_monty?

FYI, I have known who TubaDiva is since 1999.
And this is what you meant by “tubas”?
Give me a break!

Don’t feel bad about that. I’m sure you couldn’t learn sincerity from anybody.

Whereas you learned the value of faking it almost immediately, right?

Every senior at Redondo High that year took the test in Third Period. I was in Study Hall that period. I knew hardly anyone else’s name in that class.

I never learned to fake anything, but I’m glad to meet an expert ( takes one to know one, or something like that). :stuck_out_tongue:

I was referring to the loooooooong con, you suspension bridge elbow.

That’s not what Maureen says!

Nobody gives a rat’s ass. Seriously.
Got anything to say about your precious debate, now that it is over and done with?

Fair enough. My apologies.

I assumed, given your recurrent seeming amazement at the nature and rules of the BBQ Pit (and the SDMB as a whole), that you would be unaware of, say, TubaDiva’s identity. That was a poor, and admittedly unkind, assumption.

I remain perplexed, however, by your apparent failure to grok the nature of the Pit, or the application of board rules. I understand the latter can be arbitrary at times, perhaps even obscure…but this ain’t rocket science.

Like I said, I groove on oblique. Even if no one else caught my History of the World reference, it made me happy.
