In the Elton John Song, "Someone Saved My Life Tonight".....

…after he sings that phrase, is the next line “sugar bear”? I did a search on EJ lyrics and found the song, but it won’t let me click on it to see what the lyrics are. I am trying to learn the song on my guitar and feel funny about singing “sugar bear” if that ain’t what I’m supposed to sing.

Thanks

Quasi

I am 99% sure the line is “sugar bear”, which is intended to be taken in sarcasm.

I don’t have a cite for this, but I listened to the song several times before posting.

Elton John’s, “Someone Saved My Life Tonight”

Misheard Lyrics:
Someone shaved my wife tonight, Sugar bear

Correct Lyrics:
Someone saved my life tonight…Sugar bear

Elton John’s, “Someone Saved My Life Tonight”

Misheard Lyrics:
You almost had your hooves in me, Dingy Deer

Correct Lyrics:
You almost had your hooks in me, didn’t you dear?

The real lyrics were:
Someone saved my life tonight, sugar bear.

But I misheard them as:
Someone shaved my wife tonight, pubic hair!

“And someone saved my life tonight sugar bear
You almost had your hooks in me didn’t you dear
You nearly had me roped and tied
Altar-bound, hypnotized
Sweet freedom whispered in my ear
You’re a butterfly
And butterflies are free to fly
Fly away, high away, bye bye”
