In the movie The Dark Knight Rises, the villain Bane...

lifts Batman up and carries him by the neck with one hand with the other hand supporting him. After this, he picks up Batman from the ground with both arms and presses him over his head. Batman with his armor on should weigh well over 200 lbs.

Does this require an almost superhuman level of strength of is it possible for a man of similar size as Bane to accomplish if he lifts weights?

I haven’t watched professional (the fake stuff) wrestling in a long time, but don’t those guys often lift the other over their head?

I don’t remember the scene you mean; was it like a clean and press? If so, 250-300 lbs is totally doable for a strong lifter.

They do but Bane did a clean and press on Batman. The wrestlers have to help each other get up there.

In the sewer fight scene that they had which was the first one, when Bane says the ‘theatricality for the uninitiated’ part of his speech, Batman swings at him and misses. Bane punches him then say’s ‘you betrayed us’ and grabs Batman with one hand around the neck and lifts him.

The other part was at the end of the fight when Batman was on the ground and Bane bends over and picks him up and lifts him over his head and snaps his back. It would be considered a clean and press i guess.

In the first of the Nolan Batman movies, Bruce Wayne basically curls Liam Neeson’s character at the end of the fight scene. I vote for “superhuman strength” on the part of powerful people in that universe.

Looks like the world record for clean-n-press is about 500 lbs. with ~400 lbs. being common for serious professional lifters. A 200+ lb. Batman lift seems plausible.

Totally possible and easily filmed, as Tom Hardy is a monster.

All Hardy’s fight scenes in *Warrior *are totally real as well, and Nolte wasn’t acting either.

The second lift does sound like a clean and press and is certainly possible. The first one sounds like a one handed shoulder press if he brought Batman in to his shoulder and pushed him straight up. 200+ lbs for a one handed shoulder press is pretty damn heavy, but still within the realm of mortal possibility. Lifting 200+ pounds straight up starting from arms length, much harder.

Are you sure about that?

Here’s what he looks like without the raincoat.

I should have put a smily on my other post

Just saw from IMDB that he’s playing Mad Max.
