My father, as “devote” Mormon truly enjoyed his position as the unquestioned authority of our family in that highly patriarchal society. In the secret Mormon temple rituals, Mormon wives had to pledge to obey their husbands and there was unbelievable pressure on my mother to submit to everything, including physical, emotional and sexual abuse. He made her get on one her hands and knees and lick his shoes.

Us children were the victims of horrific abuse as well.

While the Mormon church did not actively promote abuse, it supplied an environment which allowed monsters to roam free. My mother was strongly encouraged to keep going back to my father. My sisters were instructed to forgive him for molesting them.

At the LDS Social Services, where my parents were receiving church-approved couples counseling, several of us kids, as teenagers, were brought in on one session. I brought up the terrible pain which we were under, and the only response from the therapists was to congratulate my father on keeping his cool. Our needs were invisible.

Sure, we didn’t stone our sister for “allowing” my father to rape her and my than they didn’t stone me for my brother raping me, but the internet is littered with stories of how victims of sexual abuse are treated as sinners by that church.

In the name of god, indeed.

That sounds truly horrific, and is an indictment of that society as well.

OTOH, my best friend’s wife was brought up in a Sufi Islamic household, and from what I saw, they were eminently civilized.

We need to accept that there is a clash of civilizations and address it with force and zero tolerance.

And people wonder why I am so strongly anti-religion. This story is simply confirmation of the fact that religion of any kind is pure, concentrated evil.

Sorry mate but it is human nature to be evil and then use the cloak of religion to hide behind. It is not religion in itself that is the problem but mankind.
Anyway back to the OP, this is horrible and I have no words but only tears for this girl.

I am not a big fan of Mormonism, and I suspect that other conservative patriarchal religions also provide an environment where hate can be fostered.

The answer to that came from President Spencer W. Kimball. “The Mircle of Forgiveness” Read the chapter, “Crime Against Nature” especially page 82 and 83. You will have your answer to the question you ask from a Prophet of God.

Nothing can be taken for granted here. Sex is a powerful influence whether associated or experienced through homosexuality, pornography, or adultery.

Would these people be as terrible, bigoted humans if it weren’t for the influence of that cult? Maybe, but more likely that church is retarding their awareness and understanding.

My own mother, an otherwise really sweet grandmother, has all but disowned my sister for being gay.
