I don’t care what “justification” they offer. Any group that condones this kind of thing should be wiped from the face of the earth. The world would be better off if Saudi Arabia’s judges and Islamic law advocates were fed into a wood chipper, feet first.

I handed in a report yesterday on the stoning of (alleged) adulterers in Iran. It’s hard to write a paper when you’re alternating between crying and wanting to punch something. Part of my research project involved making a suggestion for policy to curb this sort of thing. WTF - policy? The professor asked me in the middle of class what I thought should be done. The only thing I could think of was “Revolution.”
Nice to have as an ally huh? There is no justification for this shit. I once thought the world was growing up and maturing, but it actually seems to be going backwards.

Do you happen to know, off the top of your head, what the punishment for rapists is supposed to be? If rape VICTIMS get whipped, I’m thinking that rapists should be executed. After getting five times the lashes that the victim got.
From my understanding, you can only be prosecuted for rape under sharia law if there is a male witness. (it might be two) Needless to say, there are very few convicted rapists in that area.

From what I have read, the crime must be witnessed by four males under Sharia law, otherwise it’s considered unprovable, and the complaining female is then charged with adultery, because she could not substantiate the rape charge, the punishment for that being stoning.
Punishment for rape is, indeed, execution.
And yes, either four “just men” must be witnesses or two just women and three just men. Whatever just means under sharia.
The real kicker is that pregnancy out of marriage is often considered evidence of being unchaste rather than any indication of having been raped. With predictable outcome.

The rape victim is going to get 200 lashes for reporting this to the media? (As opposed to the “fair” sentence of her receiving a mere 90 lashes for “being in the car of an unrelated male at the time of the rape”?) That is one fucked up country / culture / religion !! :mad:
Looking for coherent logic here is a fool’s errand, but… if the female can be charged with adultery, then shouldn’t the male at least be chargeable with adultery as well?

Am I correct to believe that more than about 100 lashes is usually a fatal punishment? So, a near death experience for being with a man she wasn’t related to, but a particularly gruesome death for contempt of court. Wheee…

I’m not sure how the woman speaking out and getting punished for it served to lengthen the sentences of the perpetrators, but that’s pretty much the least baffling thing about news stories like this.
