In the NHL, is the production of goals, per minutes played, higher 4/4 vs 5/5 (goalie playing)?
I don’t have actual proof, but the general undersranding is that it’s far higher in 4 v 4.
Players with high speed and technique (goal scorers) have far more room to practice their “craft”. And thus more goals are produced.
As it says in the cite, goals are scored in overtime(4 vs. 4) at a rate of one every 10 minutes and in regulation at a rate of one every 12 minutes. Now it doesn’t differentiate between when the goals were scored in regulation whether it be 6 on 4, 5 on 4, 4 on 4, etc. But you could assume that the rate for 5 on 5 would be slightly higher than the rate for regulation.
Hope this helps.
