I think the Barmy Army usually struggle a bit with the top E. Do most national songs have such a range (an octave) and such a high note?
Our choir version (which we occasionally have to sing if we’re at some function where the Governor-General or the state Governor turns up) is also in G.
After many years of singing in church choirs, the rule I’ve always heard quoted is that “if you want the congregation to sing, never go above a D”.
